im not all hip on all things p4 and im wondering about something. about a year or so ago i bought a p4 2.4gig 800mhz w/hyperthreading and an asus p4p800 vm motherboard. here is where i am having problems. acording to my mb manual it is a socket 478 or something like that. i am looking into getting a pcie mb as an upgrade but all the mbs i see are different sockets. but someone had told me they are all the same. can someone clearify this for me. if i upgrade to a pcie mb do i have to upgrade my cpu also? thanks for the help

To my knowledge there are no PCI Express Motherboards for Socket 478. If you want a PCI Express Mobo, you will need a new CPU as well. The most prevalent PCI Express Intel boards are the socket 915's. What do you want PCI Express for? If it's for gaming, your best choice would be an AMD Socket 939 solution. Hell, I would pick AMD over Intel unless I was relying on several resource heavy apps running at the same time.
