Wanted to get a northbridge cooler for my P5W DH Deluxe, was wondering if anyone had any experience with a a fan and not just one of those monsterous heatsinks that i see for sale on newegg.

How difficult is it going to be for me to take off the NB heatsink that's already there? I saw a site a longgggggg time ago that walked you through removing it, on this particular board as a matter of fact, but I can't remember it. Anyways, your help is appreciated.

Thanks

Here's what you've been looking for. The following link is an excellent cooling mod (shown in my sig) for the Asus P5W DH Deluxe, which addresses a problem with some boards topping out around 380Mhz FSB. It's important to be able to reach 400 + Mhz FSB stable if you want to have enough OC ceiling for the C2D.

Making P5WDH ready for Conroe

With part one of this mod, my board is stable at 414Mhz maximum, so I did not perform the hardware volt mod in part two. Also, I took the mod a step further by adding a 40mm fan to the northbridge heat sink to further reduce the temperatures and enhance stability. The fan is a Cooler Master Blue Ice SLC-S41-U1, and is on the shelf at Comp USA for $10.00. Just discard the heat sink that's boxed with the fan, and use the supplied screws. It's a perfect fit, and the three wire plug will allow the motherboard to monitor the RPM.

Also, if you'd like to know more about what constitutes reasonable temps, check out the following topic:

Hope this helps. Enjoy. 8)
