I'm planning on reformatting my system. I'd like to know where to install Windows XP for maximum performance. I have 3 HDs:

60GB 5400RPM - mass storage
120GB 7200RPM - mass storage
250GB 7200RPM - I plan on partitioning this drive and installing Windows to it

What I want to know is.. should I put Windows on it's own small partition and install my programs (such as Photoshop and video games) on a separate partition? By putting Windows on a separate partition am I improving performance? And if it does improve performance, how large should be partition be?

You want to install XP in the fastest drive that you have. Also, if the 250 gb drive has a larger buffer than the other drives, then use that drive. You will see increased speed with drives with a bigger buffer. I would create a 20 gig partition for XP and then partition the drive as you see fit. As for the rest of the HD'S, it really does not matter how many partitions you create.

Good luck!
