Hello everyone,

I have a problem with my PC and I was hoping someone might be able to help. My PC has the following specifications:

  • Motherboard: Asus ROG Crosshair VIII Dark Hero
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5900X 12 cores
  • RAM: Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro SL 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 3200MHz C16
  • Graphics card: MSI RTX 3080 Ti Suprim X
  • PSU: Corsair RMx Seriex RM 1000x
  • Display: Asus ROG Swift PG279QM

Everything was working fine until two days ago. I had my screen refresh rate set to 240Hz, G-Sync enabled, and HDR turned on.

However, a couple of days ago, my screen refresh rate was reset to 60Hz upon Windows start-up. When I tried to reset it to 240Hz, my monitor turns off and indicates there's no Displayport signal. After running many tests, the only configurations I've been able to use without issue are:

  1. 120Hz, with HDR enabled. Color depth at 8 bit.
  2. 144Hz, with HDR disabled. Color depth at 8 bit.

Any other configuration above this results in the monitor turning off and showing a "no Displayport signal" message (even if I move from 120 to 144 Hz with HDR enabled, I also get the no-signal message)

Here are some additional details that might help:

  • When I power on the PC, the monitor only lights up at the Windows login screen. I don't see any of the usual load screens or the usual "Press Del" to access BIOS/UEFI.
  • Last year, there was a point where I couldn't see the loading screens prior to the Windows login either, but installing an "Display ID Firmware" from nVidia solved the issue. However, when I had that problem, my monitor was still operating at 240Hz without issues on Windows and games.
  • With other monitors connected to the Displayport (and HDMI), I can see the load screens prior to Windows.
Before reaching out here, I've done the following:

  • Searched for information online & in Tom's Hardware.
  • Updated the drivers to the latest version, with a clean install.
  • Ran the "Display ID Firmware" again, but it says I already had it installed.
  • Updated the BIOS of the motherboard to the latest version.
  • Tested with Fast boot boot activated and deactivated.
  • Tested with CMS both deactivated and activated.
  • I had my keyboard and mouse connected to the monitor's USB ports before. I've unplugged them and connected them directly to the CPU case.
  • Restored the graphics card and monitor to factory settings.
I tried connecting the monitor to a laptop via HDMI instead of Displayport, and the laptop neither recognized the monitor nor displayed any image. When I connected another monitor and a TV to my PC, all images were visible, but these devices only support refresh rates of 120Hz and 100Hz, so I haven't been able to verify if my graphics card correctly outputs higher refresh rates.

Any idea what could be the problem? What can I do to return things to normal?

Thank you in advance!

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

Updated the BIOS of the motherboard to the latest version.
Did you clear the CMOS after you've verified that the BIOS was flashed with the latest version?

I'd try and use DDU to remove all GPU drivers from your platform. Then manually reinstall the latest driver sourced from Nvidia's support site, in an elevated command, i.e, Right click installer>Run as Administrator.

Thank you for your reply.

Yes, I forgot to mention, but I did clear the CMOS after updating the BIOS to reset it to factory settings.

As for using DDU to delete the drivers, I'm going to give it a try.

Best regards.
