Hello everyone! :)

For a long time I have had the problem that my PC freezes irregularly in some games, sometimes after 20 minutes, sometimes after 3 hours.
But not on the desktop - only in some games. And now I am trying to find out the problem which is not that easy and now I need your help :)

Problem Description:
I start a game normally, the game runs smoothly, there are no problems, then the following happens sometimes after 20 minutes but sometimes only after 3 hours of play,
my PC freezes in the loading screen of the game, it remains silent for a few seconds, then the appears "Pixel errors" as in the pictures (see attachment) and the PC starts to restart.
After the restart everything is back to normal on the desktop. I have already changed the graphics card, unfortunately without success.

The problem persists even with a new graphics card
I looked at the event display and found the following (see pictures).
I looked at the reliability curve and found the following (see pictures).

Unfortunately I don't know anymore what to do or what all these "error messages" meant after the PC froze and restarted.

What I have already done:
  • Reinstalled Windows 10
  • Graphics card driver / chipset driver reinstalled / updated
  • BIOS updated
  • Run virus scan
  • Graphics card replaced
  • RAM replaced
  • Run benchmarks (Furmark, RAM e.t.c)
  • I have already been to a PC company, they checked the hardware and found no problems / defects.
My hardware:
Operating system: Windows 10 Home
Processor: Intel Core I9-10900k 4.10Ghz
Graphics card: NVIDIA RTX 3080
RAM: 16 GB RAM DDR4 3000Mhz
CPU cooler: BeQuiet Dark Rock Pro 4
Power supply: Corsair RM1000i - 1000 watts
Mainboard: MSI MPG Z490 Gaming Carbon WIFI ATX Mainboard Sockel 1200

Edit: If you still need information about the hardware, please write to me immediately :)

I would like to thank everyone who tries to help me!
Im from Germany! Sorry that the screenshots are in german :)

Oh Hey, Good question!

its a self build PC - a friend of mine build this PC together i have no clue what he did in Bios or in Windows Settings
And i also have to say its only in 2-3 Games, i can play OW as example for 3 hours everyday and got not Problems.
Mostly its in Fortnite and Call Of Duty Cold War :)

Tell me if you need any Information about Bios or something.
Im ready to send you Files or Screenshots.

What motherboard do you have?

might need to ask friend to pop over and set bios to defaults, but we can look in bios as he may have just set an auto overclock.

This is My Mainboard/Motherboard: MSI MPG Z490 Gaming Carbon WIFI ATX Mainboard Sockel 1200.

I also saw in Task Manager that when i play Fortnite i saw that the CPU was on 5,00 Ghz during the game.
And i also know that in BIOS the XMP for RAM is On, and another Game Boost is activated in BIOS.

Hello colif,

Yes, in the game I always have between 4-5ghz.
I have already reinstalled Windows / reset to factory settings.

I have already been to a PC specialist in my city and they have checked my hardware completely and have not found any problems.
I myself have no idea what it could be. Since it sometimes occurs after 30 minutes of playing and sometimes the error only occurs after 3.5 hours non-stop.

once my friend replies with a conversion, I can suggest more things. He is probably asleep as he lives in a different time zone.

if the bios was set to a little faster the shop may not have looked in there, so reducing speed in bios might help. Clearly whatever caused problem is still there, since you replaced gpu and it still happens. BIOS settings are possible cause as they survive reinstalls.

Hey colif,

Thank you in advance that you are ready to help me and that you answer me,
I appreciate that very much.

Would you like me to send you some photos from the BIOS?
Just tell me what you want to see :)

I can only say a friend build this PC together and he was 2-3 Minutes in BIOS and i dont know if there are some wrong settings.
I build this PC in Nov. 2020 and since Dec. 2020 i got this problem already in Call Of Duty Cold War.
I thought its the game but now in March i installed Fortnite and got the same problem there.

So i have this problem since Nov. 2020
And now i really want to fix it.

The nvlddmkm.sys file is a NVIDIA graphics card driver. There are a few things you can do to fix this problem. First off, try a full uninstall using DDU in Safe Mode then re-install the driver (more information). Or try getting the latest version of the driver. Or try one of the 3 most recent drivers released by NVIDIA. Drivers can be found here: http://www.nvidia.com/ or you can allow Windows Update to download the driver for you, which might be a older/better version.

Possible Motherboard page: https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/MPG-Z490-GAMING-CARBON-WIFI
You already have the latest BIOS installed.

This information can be used by others to help you. Someone else will post with more information. Please wait for additional answers. Good luck.

Hi gardenman,
Thank you for your answer!

Do you mean that the problem is with the NVIDIA graphics card driver?

Sometimes I play for 20 minutes and nothing happens.
Sometimes I play for 2 hours nothing happens.
And sometimes I play for 3 hours and all of a sudden there is a crash with the graphics error on the loading screen of the games.
do you mean the error with the Windows crashes after sometimes only 3.0 hours of play is due to the NVIDIA driver?

I am looking forward to your answer!

It is likely that your NVIDIA card (or driver) caused both of the crashes above. It was blamed directly in the dump files.

  • Download the latest driver.
  • Download DDU.
  • Put both on your Desktop or somewhere where you can access them easily.
  • Use msconfig.exe to boot into Safe Mode.
  • Run DDU and clear our your old NVIDIA drivers.
  • Use msconfig.exe to turn Safe Mode off.
  • Boot back into normal mode and install the latest driver (already downloaded).

Full instructions are here: https://forums.tomshardware.com/faq...n-install-of-your-video-card-drivers.2402269/

If this doesn't work, try the same process again but with a slightly older version of the driver.

Let's hope the issue is just the driver, and not hardware. More testing will be needed to determine this. If you continue to crash after doing the above, upload the new minidumps.

The NVIDIA driver was blamed again. There's really only a few other suggestions that I would have. That is, try a few more versions of the driver (even let Windows Update load one). If that doesn't work, try the GPU in another PC to see if the GPU is the issue. But Colif may have other ideas, so you might want to wait and see what he says.

Hi, Thanks for the answer!

Okay thats really weird that its again the NVIDIA driver, after a clean install/uninstall - a friend told me i should try "BlueScreenView" and check the .dmp File.
I saw there is too a problem with: "Ntoskrnl.exe" with the latest crash.

Do the two belong together?
I am looking forward to your answer!
And I already thank you for your effort!

Bluescreenview always blames the same thing, ntoskrnl

NTOSKRNL = windows kernel. It handles all driver requests, power management, and memory management. It sits between Hardware and Applications.
It got blamed but its not the cause. It is the victim.

is this how you removed GPU drivers? https://forums.tomshardware.com/faq...n-install-of-your-video-card-drivers.2402269/

Try it again, but instead of getting drivers from Nvidia after safe mode, run windows update and allow windows to install slightly older Nvidia drivers. Might make a difference although you would think a 30 series card would be fine with them.

try updating intel management engine interface - https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/MPG-Z490-GAMING-CARBON-WIFI#down-driver&Win10 64

Hi Colif,

I have another question about it.
I've had the problem since I assembled the PC.

I've never reinstalled Windows (clean install)
Only reset to factory settings.

Do you think I should completely reinstall windows once (clean install)?
Can it also be a Windows error? This problem with the crashing/freezing/restarting?

I'm waiting for your answer!
