Question PC stuck on boot screen

Hi,

I have a Lenovo pre-built that is no longer working, it started with different BSOD messages which then progressed to BSOD with no text, just a blank blue screen. After that I started my troubleshooting by resetting the CMOS and even replacing it, reseating the RAM, disconnecting/reconnecting different plugs on the mobo, removing the WiFi card from the mobo, booting with nothing plugged in and none of this has helped. I even bought a brand new SSD, disconnected my old one and created a Windows Installation Media on a USB-drive, but now it gets stuck on the Windows logo instead. I have access to the BIOS and it works flawlessly there.

Clearly the GPU is working as intended and I am having a hard time thinking that the CPU/mobo could be at fault because it is working in the BIOS, so I really do not know what else could be the cause of this.
Any help would be much appreciated

Lenovo have a number of Legion's in their portfolio, can you please provide the SKU to your prebuilt? How old is the prebuilt in question(asking to understand the age of the PSU in the unit)?

Where did you source the installer for the OS? Can you source a donor platform(known working motherboard with the right BIOS version) so you can drop your processor onto it and see if the same issue prevails on said donor system with a small capacity SSD(and attempt to install the OS onto it)?

The chipset is responsible for the SATA data ports, so my hunch is that your board or the BIOS on said board is going South or is already there.

Hi, the model is a Legion T5-26AMR5 (Type 90RC). The installer is directly from Microsoft on a USB-drive which I’ve used in the past without any issue. I do not have any donor mobo, but since a new SSD did not solve the issue and nothing else seems to be faulty I guess it’s the mobo aswell. I guess the only way to solve this is to replace the mobo?

Can you at least get access to a cheap M.2 drive? Perhaps you can try a drive on one of your M.2 slots?

Troubleshooting isn't exactly about throwing money, buying new parts nor is it about pointing a finger and hoping you were right about the part being the culprit. You go through a checklist and hopefully you spend less money by narrowing down the part sourcing them from a friend or neighbor.

Yes of course, the PC had an M.2 drive previously which is why I bought the SATA SSD in case that part was the problem. I have replaced the mobo and the issue still persists, I have access to the BIOS with no problem and all the parts are recognized there. Temps are all good, I’ve disabled various settings such as Secure Boot, Fast Boot, TPM, all overclock set to factory default without any progress.

I have put back the M.2 drive and reset it through the BIOS and that didn’t help. The USB-drive with the Windows installation media works on another PC so that’s not the issue. I am really having trouble understanding what the issue could be here. I have tried everything AFAIK in the BIOS and the only parts that could still be causing these issues are either the CPU or PSU, but again it doesn’t make sense since the BIOS loads up completely fine.

EDIT:
I did manage to get a BSOD with the error code ”SYSTEM THREAD EXCEPTION NOT HANDLED” which online seems to be caused by a bad driver, but with the SSD being clean and the USB-drive working on another PC I can’t justify that being the cause.

I tried booting with a Live-USB with Linux, a lot of reference to the CPU hanging up which seems to be the same case with when I tried with Windows. I have tried upgrading the BIOS on the new mobo aswell with no difference.
