What this means is that Microsoft has finally set some standards for their new operating system. For YEARS oems have been ripping you off and that came to light when they shipped Windows Vista with ONLY 256Mb ram (At the lowest) or more often 512Mb. Who got the blame? Microsoft.

As for Windows 8... grow up, adapt and maybe stop bitching as Windows 8 has basically provided you, as a user a new organised desktop for shortcuts and a better search function (Amongst other things). It's not a tremendous change, it's not life changing and if most of you used it for more than a day you might get used to it.

Frustrated? A bit. Why? ANYTHING to bitch and moan about (But then again that's what I've just done so shame on me).

I can't count TWO users in my company that use the programs tab. Not two and that includes me. SHORTCUTS

P.P.s Most people have laptops so what better way to get them to upgrade than a laptop with a touch screen. The cycle continues.

There will be regular laptops , and tablet PCs : so nothing new. And i think the OS isn't overly heavy. So there is nothing wrong with the situation ,except for Mircosoft , because touch sensitive monitors and laptops wont reach high market share.

I havent tried W8 hand-on, but what about a no-touch screen ala kinect for the interface. That coupled with voice controls and a customizable GUI would work for me. This would allow you to use whatever interface fits the type of work you're doing for the ultimate flexibility.

This has nothing to do with software and everything to do with hardware.

Sounds like these "panel shaking" comments are just an excuse to not put touchscreens in laptops due to the added expense.

I like all the generalisations made here by people that seem to have not actually previewed windows 8 other than what they have seen in the videos (metro UI, etc etc) it is quite sad that a technology and hardware site are full of such sad pandas everyone so negative to change. What I read in this article is Windows 8 is ahead of the game and hardware vendors cannot cope with the demands of making "newer" technology readily available for reasonable prices. I work with touch screens regularly doing what I do and have never run across "driver" issues for mouse support etc. like people have claimed. The main issue with a touch screen is sometimes dead patches will arise in areas of the screen that are used more regularly which can be an issue but that is mostly with excessive or long term use. All those claiming that it will be poor for games and that they dislike the Metro UI need to read information on the system before making stupid statements like this as most people know Windows 8 is running off of less resources therefore slight improvement of speed over Windows 7. It has optimised boot settings for an almost 20-30 seconds faster boot AND the main one of all if you don't like the metro UI it TURNS OFF!!!! /facepalm so many trools and uneducated people make the world a sad place. Innovation people get with it.

Thinking you need a Start Button is like the old guy at my job that won't upgrade from Windows XP. An interface like Google Chrome's New Tab page, but customizeable is ideal.

I can't believe how many people have jumped on the "Bash Windows 8" bandwagon and nobody is acknowledging the fact that Google Chrome's Log-in so you keep the same links everywhere is handy. I get to use the same settings at work and at home. That's all Windows 8 really is at it's core--the same settings, experience, and data on your desktop, laptop, phone, or tablet--that's actually really handy so long as it can accommodate device specific settings such as tiles for a phone and something mouse-oriented for a desktop.

It's intended to be used with a mouse and keyboard, but still functional through touch input on a tablet--unlike Windows 7, which is non-functional on a tablet or phone. Adding support for a normal Windows experience on a phone or tablet is smart, not stubborn.

Haha--the trolls thumbed down my earlier post because I didn't blindly bash Windows 8. Seriously, use something before you bash it. For example, I KNOW I don't like Apple products because I've used them (iPod, iPhone, lots of Macs...okay, the iPhone was cool when it was the only non-Blackberry smartphone). Windows 8 handles power states and multiple CPU cores better and you can turn off Metro.

People seem to be missing a HUGE point here, windows 8 is also a desktop interface you can deiced not to use metro and its been shown to use less resources then even 7,with some ui tweeks on your side your basically talking about a 7 with apps that you dont have to use but CAN and a less resources used its a win.
