Question PC won't boot (no post), fans spin, GPU error 43

Hi, my first post, probably should've posted 2 problems in 2 different posts, but they might be related.

So, I decided to sell my old PC, components are https://pcpartpicker.com/list/KVp9RK but PSU Chieftec ctb-650s, GPU MSI GTX 660 Ti OC V1 (with a fan on the side, not in the middle), RAM used in the build is Crucial, TeamGroup was used later for tests (both were not put in at the same time).

I cleaned it with compressed air (without placing it close to the boards), replaced the thermal paste of the CPU, GPU (GD900), used and antistatic bracelet, etc. Was very careful with that.

Next, I think it would be better to describe what is happening in a chronological list:

Starting from the CPU, the GPU is not connected at this moment. No response to pressing the button, but the green light on the motherboard is on, indicating power is supplied. I assume that 2 stands that were not screwed in (the board did not touch metal) may prevent the board from starting. I take the board out of the case and notice that I did not pass the foolproof (guess what it makes me lol) because I connected the 12V cable to the CPU by 180 degrees. This is probably a very important part.

Reading the manual for the motherboard, I notice “Asus Anti-surge protection”, hoping that it protected my PC from me. The PC starts from CPU, no artifacts. I restart several times, everything starts as it should. *It’s worth noting that at this stage there are 2 different Windows installed on both disks, since I was going to work on the software part when I didn’t need to touch the insides of the PC.

I connect the GPU via HDMI, it starts on a standard driver 800*600, a minute later it installs its own and the 1920 starts. I reboot several times, everything works. To make sure, I launch FurMark, preset 1920, at 39% the windows of the program freezes (slightly turns white), but I still can move the mouse, I manage to notice that the GPU temperature is 61 degrees (which is not a high temperature at all during the stress test) after a few seconds PC restarts on its own. From there my pain starts.

The PC boots on the standard 800*600 resolution, in the device manager the GPU has yellow exclamation mark and error 43. I restart just in case, when I load to desktop there were no shortcuts or tray, I click on it tray once, the OS offers to end the explorer process, I agree , the tray appears, I repeat the process, it does not help. I'm rebooting.

I decide that this may be related to the OS, I decide to install again, the installer works quite slowly, after the end it restarts (I’m not sure whether the installer initiated it or it was forced again), but not in the OS, but again in the installer, I reboot, I decide run memtest, no errors found.

I boot into the BIOS (like memtest in a resolution of 800*600, with the screen not completely seen), I’m going to set the boot order, but not a single option is displayed in the boot. I'm rebooting. Next is the situation I am in now, because it was the last time I've booted up since then.

I reboot, no post, fans are spinning, removed the graphics card, plugged HDMI to motherboard, still no post, dissasembled everything, plugged again only PSU to CPU and mobo, 1 Ram stick in A2 slot, nothing else, still the same result. Even USB ports on mobo for some reason won't work (didn't tested every port, but 2 different (2.0/3.0) weren't for sure), but fans connected to mobo still spin.

And now the list what I have tried to do with mobo and CPU:

- Switched RAM to TeamGroup 4GB and slots (not all 16 possible combinations, but still, like 6)

- Tried different PSU (Aerocool Strike X 600)

- Disconnected everything that is not needed (USB, SATAs, case fans)

- Changed CPU cooler

- Shorted CMOS jumper

- Pulled out CMOS battery for like 30-40 mins

- Pressed MemOK button (acts like simple reset, light flashes 1 time, like usual).

I was thinking that it could be problems with BIOS, but I don't know if I can reflash it (since USBs on mobo are not working), maybe the CPU is dead (ordered a test Celeron, just to be sure), or maybe a corrosion on mobo is causing this (not sure, cause it is probably old enough and all was working View: https://imgur.com/N29ignr

under the RAM, CPU slot looks alright

.

As for GPU. Connected with another system Gigabyte z370 hd3, i3-8100, Aerocool strike x 600. Error 43. Tried:

- Fresh Windows

- Installing from NVidia page and from driver booster

- Deleting with DDU and installing again.

- Switching output from HDMI to DP, after which I was able to change resolution and screen wasn't filling fulscreen, but not much else.

I'm thinking trying to reflash BIOS of GPU, but considering it restarted PC mid FurMark... And there are strange corrosive-like spots ( View: https://imgur.com/dAkHxbZ

) not sure if they are the cause, but chances are, they are like on mobo - YEARS old and GPU worked fine.

Don't know probably forgot something that I've tested already and didn't write it down. Desperate.

What Should I try first? What do you think is probably dead and what is not?

I was thinking taking the PC to the repair shop, but not sure if my city even have good masters to test it, and I know that it's a cheap hardware, so repairing it would be cost effective only with low prices of repair, which is... not likely.

Hoping for the help

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

Using GPU-Z, see if any or most values show up with a 0(zero) if so, the GPU is beyond saving.

but PSU Chieftec ctb-650s
I wouldn't have that unit in your build.
Thanks, I'll try that by the next few days. Could it ever be that a faulty GPU could be responsible for ruining mobo/CPU? Since I couldn't launch even without GPU shrotly after FurMark
