In reference to the Thermaltake PSUs, both could be right, both wrong, but in any case, DB is correct and the discussion should remain civil and on-topic. Iirc, Thermaltake has re-used names like TR2 and "Smart" often enough that I wouldn't be sure what unit was being discussed by name alone. A few of their newer ones reviewed well, and others were shlock. In the absence of trust, I think Tier-4 is not unfair. If TT can eliminate the confusion, I'm sure some of their units will deserve to move up. Anyway...
I'll be putting a Corsair CS450M in service soon (hopefully this weekend).

Funny story, MSI sent the guy an AX760 "by accident" because the other guy that won also had one and they claim to have mixed up the orders. No way. They did it because they didn't want to have to troubleshoot this guy's PC for weeks and be on the hook for it not working.

good from msi but , but isnt it recommanded to have 850w for a gtx 980ti sli too?

Most users of sli 980ti will also run a decent OC, so 300-350w just on the system isn't out of reach. Then throw on a couple 280w cards and maxed out you are looking at a minimum of a 850w psu. Normal usage will see 600-700w . Not something I'd trust on a 750w CX for long.

Agree, two 980Tis can easily reach 300W plus when OC, a 6600K when OC plus the rest of system could get quite close. I think it will be able to handle the system, though, as most good PSUs can typically create more amperage than they are rated for while voltages remain in spec.

On Hardwaresecrets, Gabriel Torres overloaded the AX760 to a whopping 986.8 W with "noise and ripple levels extremely low." I think this power supply can handle the load more than enough seeing as it has those overload capabilities. The rectifying bridge itself on this unit is rated for 3450W, majorly overspecified!

That doesn't change the fact that he configured the build to run on a CX750, which can't do that. The only reason he got the AX unit is because MSI also KNEW it was going to be a clusterf..., um, a problem, for them, if they allowed it.

Yeah, when he won I was a bit upset myself because he won with that poorly chosen PSU, but we have to remember that you don't have to be an expert to compete in the contest, anyone can enter, even people with little to no PC experience.

Actually, it's PCPartpickers fault for not nixing bogus entries that were cheating or bunk builds that were unbalanced or just plain incompetently designed. They had the power to do that, and they should have, just as we do with our "best of" builds. There's a reason some people are capable of designing a competent build and some people can't. I think we all know what that reason is, but clearly a well configured system wasn't what they were worried about over there. They did everything they could to make sure their "favorite son" was going to win. End of story.

This is 100% the truth.

lets drink on that :) is drinking allowed on this forum?
