Well gone are the good old days of a ~550w power supply being sufficient for any single card system. Looks like AMD went full nuclear meltdown with their newest rebrands. A system with a 390X needs a recommended 700w power supply......1100 watts for Crossfire!

http://www.realhardtechx.com/index_archivos/Page362.htm

That's not even too conservative as TweakTown pulled a full 805 watts from their test system running 390X Crossfire!

http://www.tweaktown.com/news/45983/amd-radeon-r9-390x-cards-crossfire-use-up-800w-power-4k/index.html

When you see the SAPPHIRE Tri-X R9 390X power supply requirements you see:

System power supply with two 8-pin PCIe® power connectors that are each capable of supplying 28 A of dedicated current.

That's the same requirement as the Radeon R9 295X2.

That's 2.24x the PCIe spec's 12.5 Amps for that connector.

So I'm not finding the Seasonic M12II EVO series on Newegg, but I am finding the Seasonic M12II series (without the EVO). Where does that one fall on the tier list?

EVGA GS shouldn't be Tier 1. It's based on the Seasonic G platform and therefore should be in Tier 2 with the other units based on the platform, like Antec Edge, Antec TPC and of course the Seasonic G/S12G itself...

That MIGHT be true, but just being based on the same platform as another unit does not necessarily place it in the same tier. There are a plethora of considerations that could make two units based on the same platform extremely different products. Fan selection, cabling and other internal options to the platform that may have been specified differently by the brand selling it could all make for a somewhat different power supply. Usually they're not highly differentiated though so it's very possible it belongs with the other G's. And I don't mean Gangstas.

I was wondering what would be a good PSU to pick up? I just ordered a GTX970 and have heard that my Corsair CX600 probably won't do the trick. So what would be a good one that will last me for some time? I was hoping ti would be ~$100 and I live in Canada. I looked at theEVGA SuperNOVA NEX 750W but have heard mixed reviews. Would it be suitable enough?

This is the good low end EVGA unit. It's 80 Plus Bronze rated but achieved Silver in testing. It's one of the only lower end units made by SuperFlower.

Review.

It's $84 after rebate.

To be fair the G/S12G's are tier 1 worthy imo.

The S12G is the old G series platform, whilst the new G series is a slight upgrade. Not enough for a Tier 1 upgrade.

Okay so I've been reading this thread for 2 days now and it really has entertained me well. I experienced sadness, anger, joy etc :)

So now here is my conundrum. Please choose from the following only. I mean if you could recommend any.

Here are my specs:
Gigabyte F2a75M-HD3
AMD A10 6800K Richland - i plan to overclock, maybe...
Sapphire HD7750
1 Hard Disk
4GB Ram DDR3
mouse,, keyboard, speaker and other USB devices.

Here are the choices:
Thermaltake LITEPOWER 500WATTS
CORSAIR VS550 550W
Corsair VS Series™ VS450
RAIDMAX RX-500AF 500W 80+ BRONZE
AEROCOOL VP PRO 500W
ZALMAN ZM 500 LE
Zalman ZM-500GS 500W
XIGMATEK CABLIBRE 600W PSU
XIGMATEK CALIBRE 500W PSU
ACBEL INTELLIGENT POWER 510 450W
A-OPEN POWER SUPPLY 500WATTS
HEC COUGAR SL-600W ATX PSU
HEC COUGAR SL-500W ATX PSU
AEROCOOL STRIKE-X 500W
Cooler Master Elite V2 500w
Cooler Master THUNDER 450W
Cooler Master EX 460 WATTS (CM RP460 PCARA3)
CROWN CHALLENGER 500W PSU
HUNTKEY GREEN POWER 550W
HUNTKEY GREEN POWER 500W

I see. Thanks for the reply! Would it be worth it to just go for the extra $30 for the G2? http://www.ncix.com/detail/evga-supernova-750-g2-80plus-9b-94405-1360.htm?affiliateid=7474144? Or does it not really differ too much? I'm looking at these as a solution for whenever I may upgrade in the future, since it seems there's a mixed reception on whether or not my CX600 will hold well. I just don't want to fry my whole system.

And why not? It should so why not just try it before buying something new.

There's not a single PSU on that list that I'd recommend purchasing for use with gaming or overclocking, much less both. I guess if I HAD to pick one, it would probably be the Corsair VS 550w.

CX600 is fine for a GTX 970, who told you it won't be enough?

So pcpartpicker estimates my wattage at 506W if I SLI 970s. Is a 550W PSU sufficient or is this pushing it a bit? Should I get 650W instea?
