Well they don't perform crossload tests, they don't outline the component choices quality wise and they don't do an overpower test (power over labelled wattage until shut down, without it going bang).

Not to say they're crap or Anandtech are full of poor people, but they just ain't that in depth.

Ok, now I've got to disagree. How is this not in depth testing. Seems like it to me, but maybe I'm wrong:

I'm inclined to agree. His criteria is questionable. Anantech and Hardware secrets are not the most in-depth testers, but they give you enough to properly categorize the unit. I don't find his position on that issue convincing at all.

But, since it's his list, it's his criteria, and I'm ok with that. It does limit the number of reviewed units that can be included since most of reviewers won't review a model that's already been reviewed by another site, unless it's an extremely popular unit. Or at least that's seems to me to be the case.

HardwareSecrets hasn't done a PSU review since Gabriel Torres returned to Brazil. His reviews were otherwise the best on the web (imho), even better than Jonnyguru (which doesn't do overload tests). He did load testing, waveform analysis, detailed component quality, and overload testing.

Cross load is only really useful for group regulated designs. Transient overvoltage and overpower usually fall in line with ripple and voltage control.

Not that this isn't good information to have, but it's not always necessary to categorize. Even when it is, you seem to assume the worst, rather ran simply saying that available info is inconclusive. I strongly disagree with that approach.

i cant find gold rated psu of 500w to 600w from a local store other than CM silent pro gold 550w or Corsair CS 550w.. are there any tier 2 CM or Corsair units that i should b on the look out for??
Online stores charge too much for shipping so other brands r not an option..

What country are you in?

Hello first of all thanks for your work with this tier list and also the previous one.

I've built a PC few month ago with gigabyte gtx 980 and i7 4790 ( non k version) and i have the FSP Raider 650 as power supply.
I was checking the list and i noticed that it appears as a bronze certificated psu in end of tier 4.

The FSP Raider 650 which I bought is a silver certificated psu with haswell compatibility and protection of : OCP, OVP, OPP, SCP, UVP
safety approval of: CE, FCC, CB, UL/CUL, TUV, BSMI, CCC, GOST, C-tick and a warranty of 5 years. ( at least it is advertised like that by FSP)

here is the official product specification from FSP: http://www.fsplifestyle.com/product.php?LID=1&PSN=382

I would like to ask if i got totally missadvertised , or just this part of the list is maybe outdated a bit?
I have the system for more than 3 month now and it seems to work just perfectly fine. I even oced my gtx 980 to 1500/7800 mhz with +20mv and it was stable, i was playing lots of games like that without problem. I'M still a bit worried as i see it in end of tier 4 , because i don't want to fry my 600$ gpu nor my i7.. so if it's possible that it could cause damage to anything i would just buy another PSU. But if there is no problem and reason to change it, i would keep using it for the next 2 years until i sell my pc and build a new one from scratch with pascal gpu and broadwell cpu. Please tell your thoughts.

It's not urgent, but you should certainly look to replace it in the short term future. I know that the Raider bronze 650w got slated for using cheap capacitors, thin wiring, high +12v ripple, and overall poor build quality so I don't expect the silver to be much better.

what about this review?
http://forums.vr-zone.com/tech-dynamic-virtual-service-center/2742771-mini-review-fsp-raider-550w-80-silver-2013-edition.html
guy says he tested with this sm sunmoon 5500

It's hard to get too much info from that review other than a general sense that they've tried to improve the design.

I will say though, if it's backed by a 5 year warranty then it probably means it will last for 5 years. FSP have been making power supplies for a long time, and any PSU manufacturer than had units failing under warranty all the time wouldn't be in business very long :)

That's for SURE not correct. Raidmax has been selling crap products since 1988, power supplies for at least ten years from my experience and the data I can find. I realize they don't MAKE their power supplies, but Andyson, ATNG and Topower, who make their power supplies, have all been in business for longer than that and haven't been forced into retirement due to the crappy quality. Yet.

It's not raidmax makeing the raider 650 silver, it's FSP's own desing and they make it aswell if i'm right. I'm not an expert in psu brands anyway. However i was looking on the web for fsp raider silver series failures , burnouts, issues, rmas, damaged components, but i didn't rly find anyone with issues.
