Gosh, I don't even know. My last upgrade cost me over $1,500 - without the case, monitor, keyboard, PSU, speakers, and video card. If you add all of that together, I guess the total would be about $2,700.

I built my first PC in the winter of 1988-1989 for $130, a couple of bucks for 2nd hand parts at a throw; IBM expansion case was my case, old Sony Trinitron 4-color CRT, only new parts were the 286-12 and 1Mg of RAM. Since then I've been upgrading a part or two here and there consistently, adding systems as rebuilds of continually leftover parts until I had three networked in the house. New parts only for the last dozen years. So I'd be guessing to say over the years I've spent about $4-5000 on hardware, another $2000 on software, mostly OS & games, a few really neat & productive apps. Doesn't seem like that much but then I generally stay a generation behind on hardware; just can't ever seem to afford bleeding edge. But then again, as I've read many product reviews over the years, I've learned what products are the better bet from the bleeding edge folks like Tom's staff, saving myself from spending a lot of cash for crap.

My computer cost me all together 2,1oo dollars. This was mainly due to i went through two graphic cards in like 4 months. I went from a GTX 260 192core to an AMD 4850 X2 so that is mainly why the cost of my computer was so much.

For the money it was the best thing going at the time (in my opinion)

I spent $1300 on my Core i7 build. 6 GB of ram, Geforce 285, CoolerMaster HAF case... The only parts I used from my old computer was speakers, optical drive, and monitor. So those included, i'm at about $1500 bucks.

Heh, I don't really remember. I'm currently using an old Dell with a 1.8GHz P4 and 512MB RAM. Really teaches you to optimize. But hey, it plays Starcraft!
I plan on getting a new computer for about $900, possibly up to $1000 very soon.

generally bought over 5 months in 3 times. 3 x 1000 €.
first thing i buy is motherbord, RAM, CPU, case, peripherals (not the screen)
second thing the graphics card , main HDD RAID
last thing the screen, printer( sometimes, scanner, external hdds)

everything gets changed every 18 months except the screen which lasts 24 to 30 months.

About $650 to upgrade to i7 920 + Asus P6T + 6GB DDR3-1333 + Nox PSU Cube 700W.

I reused the case, 17" CRT, N7950GT 512MB, 2x Raptor 74GB 10K-rpm and floppy.

I left a P4 530, Asus P5GDC Deluxe, 2x Patriot 1GB LLK CL2.0, OEM PSU 300W.

I'm very happy with the upgrade for now, despite i'm unable to install VMWare ESX 3.51 ... :-(

I have spent close to $3,000 on mine. What I figured if you want to have the best for the money then you got to spend it. The system is named Frankenstein since it is huge and loud with over 8 fans going full blast in it.

Around 1200 USD for my i7 920, MSI Eclipse mobo, GTX 260, 3x2 gigs ram for it. I had already my case and PSU, a sound card I'm fond of, speakers and monitor I like (or am at least content with) The case was close to $200 USD when I bought it (tt Armor +), the PSU $190 (PC Power and cooling silencer 750), the Speakers $99 (M-Audio Studiopro 3), the monitor was about $180, the sound card $90 (Asus Xonar DX). I guess I also own a G15 keyboard, a G5 Mouse, and a G13 gamepad, a Plantronics Gamecom 377 headset...hmmm about $2250 USD over the long haul. Though a lot of the components I had already, I spent $1200 in Dec. on the mobo, cpu, gpu, memory, and OS that makes it into the computer it is today, the other stuff I already had.
