[citation][nom]KyleSTL[/nom]So every person who mentions a Mac gets voted down? While I don't own one I would never down-grade a persons post because it's a Mac. The people who -1 mac posts are biggots, plain and simple. I'm starting to believe that PC people (mind you I am one) are more closed-minded than Mac people, despite the fact that PC people use close-mindedness as an argument against Mac people.[/citation]

Yeah. It is pretty funny. I have a Macbook Pro that I develop iPhone and iPod touch apps with to make a little money plus the machine is really nice. People can whine and moan all they want about the OS and OS X isn't my OS of choice but the machine is built very very well. I also have a thinkpad where most of my work and time is spent and a custom built desktop but just the simple fact that I mentioned owning a Mac is an immediate "vote down" on this site. Talking positive about the iPhone will also get you a vote down. Pretty ridiculous.

my pc is pretty old now but can keep up with most games on 1680 x 1050.
In the time that initial build cost about € 1200 ($1,600) and the addons were about €500 ($800).
I will buy a new samsung led tv and when the i5 is out upgrade my pc to that with a quadcore ddr3 ram 2 hdds 1tb, new vidcard (ati dx11), and maybe a second 30" monitor. The old system will become a htpc to go with my new tv :)

But most times I don't buy a whole pc but upgrade parts or the mobo + cpu. on average a pc lasts 2- 2,5 years and costs me €2000 ($2,500) per pc until I have a whole new system.

I'm getting along just fine on an IBM ThinkPad T42 I bought used for $300 in January. I've also got an aging desktop probably worth about the same now.

That costed me less than 600 euros (about 500 US dollars)

Funny to look at how the prices have changed.

in 2006 when i got my E6600 system, Found the receipt when cleaning

OCZ Platinum PC 6400 $248.99 CAD
Core2 E6600 $419.99 CAD
ATI X1900XT $391.99 CAD
Asus P5W DH $285.00 CAD
CPU Cooler $60.63 CAD
Seagate 320GB hard drives x 2 $227.98 CAD
Total after tax and shipping $1786.74 CAD

Thats without a case, psu, os, dvd burner, speakers. I had all those already. Funny to think how much less my Q6600 system cost.

I guess its a "Premium" system

Well I've been putting off a new system for quite some time as I am an audiophile, believe me that can get very expensive too.
I will build a new system when Direct 11 and windows 7 hits the streets.Thinking Very early December and in the neighborhood of 3 to 4k.
I already have a Antec 850 watt signature power supply and logitech gaming mouse waiting.

with upgrades, ~$750. i started off with a very low-budget computer, and then added a video card and better power supply. I then later upgraded the cpu to a tri-core from a dual core. If you count my monitor upgrade (from 20" to 24") then the total comes up to ~$1100.

I have upgraded 3 times over the past 5 years and have spent less than $500 every time and still have the ability to play any game I want to without any lag to this day.

$1067
Intel i7 920
DX58SO Mobo
6 GB Corsair XMS3 DDR3

24" dell widescreen monitor

Sapphire Radeon HD 4890
Control Panel for front USB ports
Rosewill 750W, modular PSU w/ blue led
Clear acrylic case with 5 purple led fans

I've noticed retail somewhat equivalents somewhere between the range of 2500-3500. I bought almost everything below cost/discount or slightly above cost so now was the right time to make a new computer.

I spent about $5000 in Australian Dollars earlier this year. Plan to upgrade with Windows 7 and new GPU early next year. Very Happy with my Rig. It’s a little over the top but its great for Gaming and Video / Audio editing.
