System Shock (the first one) - very good graphics for its time and quite innovative - one of the first fps where choosing the right weapon and ammo really did make a difference. Also the way you had to shortcut doors, open locks in a "cyberspace"-world and find the clues(sometimes heads ;-))to progress in the game, was awesome. What was best is something which lacks most of the time with new games: atmosphere! The thrill when Shodan spoke from a screen in your back, you turn and a new creature rises before you..... I do miss that.

[citation][nom]califflash[/nom]Starsiege: Tribes, the original, all the way. Its what got me into FPS. The graphics were terrible by today's standards, but the gameplay was fantastic and I think is still better than many games that come out. I believe there are still master servers up and people still play it over ten years later.[/citation]

Starsiege: Tribes was such a good game, the Demo that Sierra released had its own community, with the 2 or 3 maps that were released.

I remember spending full days just in Duel and Arena servers, and once I was pretty good there, going into the huge 24/24 public CTF games and racking up the kills.

What a great game.

Wing Commander Series
Call of Duty Series
Dark Age of Camelot
Doom
(old school...pre PC really- Airborne Rangers and F-19 Stealth Fighter on the Commodore-64)

There has been many more, but those are the games that I just kept coming back to and getting the follow ups. I still play CoD4:MW online nearly daily. Mostly play MMORPG's now, not single player games. Currently WAR, though its only sorta so-so. I miss my 6 years of DAOC before the game died. Best time EVER playing that on Midgard-Percival.

No one mentions Betrayal at Krondor? Master of Orion? Ultima Underworld? The Secret of Monkey Island, TES: Arena & Daggerfall, etc.

I guess I'm too old....

I'm going to go with something less common here:
Sid Meyer's Alpha Centauri. That game (and expansion) cost me a lot of sleep. I still play it sometimes now. I only wish there were a sequel, what with how many Civilization sequels get made.

To be completely honest hands down my favorite is Tribes 2. It was the best PC game ever before the servers died down. Problem with it was the graphics and online play were way ahead of its time and not enough advertising to get it going.

Starflight 2 has to be my all time fav. For when it came out, this game was deep. Real time combat, upgradable ship, a real economy, trading and bargaining, exploration, and a epic story. Brought my comp to its knees back in the day.

Second is the Xwing series in general.
Thrid would be the original Sam and Max.
Also I wasted an entire summer on Pool of Radiance, very fond memories.

Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries - single player
and
Air Warrior 3 - online

I played through Mechwarrior 2 more times than I can remember. God I love that game.

In all honesty the Neverwinter Nights Series. There is an old pc game I used to play when I was a kid and loved called; The Time Warp of Dr. Brain.

hmmm I have a few but I have to say that the original Need for Speed games (Porsche Unleashed and Hot Pursuit III) were my favorite. Right after that I would say Age of Mythology, Morrowind, Oblivion and Mass Effect(one of the best story lines I have ever played)

Pong. Cmon people. Not the BEST game, but credit where it's due...

Also, SYNDICATE. I have many a fond memory of juicing up my agents and sending them off with a chain gun...

There's so many choices. Doom 3, Half Life Series, Diablo. But i think the game that had the most play time throughout the last 7-8 years was always Counterstrike. Played that game to death.

Civ I & II
Master of Orion I & II
Master of Magic
World of Xeen
Populous
The old Koei games (BKoAC, RTK, ect..)
Diablo I & II
