Maybe this is a dumb question, but, I buyied a new mobo (k7n2 delta) and it
has a square conector near the ATX supply. After investigating a bit I read
it's for an ATX12V supply. In the hurry I left it disconected and used it
anyway with a normal ATX supply and it works, so my question is, is it
necesary to change the supply?, am I in risk of damage my new mobo?
Thank you.

Some mobo have problems using the ATX12v supply plug if it is not needed. If
the current draw of the cpu is within the standard mobos capability and the plug
is used it may cause instability. I quote the MSI K7T Turbo2 User's manual
'Note: Power current supplied via 12V power connector must exceed 10A; otherwise
the system could have a stability issue" I have had the problem on a Turbo2 and
have fixed a couple of other systems that had stability problems by unplugging
the 4 wire 12V supply plug.

This connector is intended for Intel P4 and higher grade AMD processors. No
harm in connecting if you dont have these faster CPU's but not necessary
either.

What kind of processor do you have? What kind of PSU is it?
If you want to run a high performance system you're going to need a
quality PSU.

If it's on the board and power supply you use it.
