I'm brand new to the pc world so any bit of assistance with my issue is much appreciated (no matter how dumbed down you have to explain it to me lol). I built my first pc a few days ago in a sff build in the Ncase M2 Round. I loved putting this case together as well as assembling all of the components and managed to get everything running first try which I was proud of haha. I played a few hours of various games in 4k like Arma Reforger, CS2, and Stalker 2. I noticed a lot of the times the fans were full blasting and I could see my cpu temps going from 70-72 to 80-84 at random times it would spike. During my setup I kind of had a hard time getting the cooler on the cpu. Had to take it on/off a few times with the thermal paste already on because I couldnt get the screws to thread when setting the cooler on top. I was surpised at how much issue this gave me, but eventually I got it to sit. I'm not sure if this could've affected my issue here but figured I'd add it.

I downloaded fan control as well but I'm not really sure how to set anything up for fan curves or anything like that. When playing any of the above games everything was basically on full blast, making tons of noise, and GPU temps hovered around 65-73 C and CPU around 72-75 & 80-84. I understand this is basically inside of a toaster but I'm wondering if there are any steps I can take to maybe help this a little more? Is there anything you guys recommend I do that'll help with noise/temps? I currently have the gpu fans and cooler fan set up as intake, and a Noctua 140mm fan on the side bracket acting as exhaust. I'm not sure if you can see in the picture provided, but I think I have room for two 120mm Noctua fans between the MOBO and PSU that I also intended to set up as exhaust. Is this a good idea? I have so many questions and am completely new to this so please share any feedback/guidance you have for a newcomer in the PC world.

ps. in Bios I set up Expo to get the full potential of the ram but that's it.

So I started exploring the world of undervolting/overclocking and set the core limit to 5000Mhz, -20 offset at 1.1 voltage. I'd like to try to get to stock settings at 5200 but I'll tinker more this weekend. Haven't seen it hit above 67 yet playing the games I listed above. So far, so good? But please share any other insights you think of!

That's good temperature, CPU is rated at 89c without throttling. Your GPU is apt to produce more heat than CPU and because of that you need as good case cooling as possible.

Thanks for the explanation. In another thread I was told to not undervolt the cpu like I did in my description, so I went back and set bios to default. I only enabled Expo for the RAM and run the 9800X3D at 5250 and just add -20 co on top of it. That's all I've changed now. Temps usually hover around 69-75C when gaming for the CPU & GPU is usually around 67C-74C, but the CPU still randomly spike to high 80's-90's when loading into games, downloading shaders, etc. Is this normal? Im getting a 92mm Noctua today that I plan to install in the back of case to help the cooler intake cool air. If I have room I may get a 140mm or 120mm fan to sit between the mobo and psu also as exhaust. When I feel the case though when gaming, the top almost get hot to the touch when gaming (even though my temps show as fine) whereas the back of case is cool so I definitely need to get rid of that hot air in the front I feel

CO is probably best way to undervolt as it's dynamical, not static which can cause instability at low loads. In some cases those can be combined depending on BIOS, static by just limiting top levels but not setting them as all encompassing and static. Ryzen algorithm is set to use higher voltage at low loads lowering it with raise of power.(Amperage) which may seem counter logical until looked thru laws of physics. That same algorithm is also guided by temperature limits so keeping cool is important.

So would you my -20 curve and enabling Expo is good enough? Is there anything else I should be doing in Bios to get the best of my setup? This is my first PC build ever so I'm still figuring it all out.

Maybe you could start by just enabling PBO. Considering your high end graphic you are probably gaming at high res and details where GPU plays more important role and 9800x3D is plenty enough for anything even at bare defaults. Considering that MB you may run into power restriction. What you did should be fine but there's also AI Overclocking you can try.

Yeah I'll definitely try this when I get home. This is probably a stupid question, but is the orientation of my psu okay in my first post? I have it so the fans are facing the inside of the pc but I also have a solid front panel for the case, there's no mesh. So is that just blowing hot air directly into the front of the case?
