Someone gave me their old 5770 1GB so tried to throw it in my old system to replace a GTX 260 896MB DDR3, just to see if it was any better than what I had or even worked (he couldn't remember but thought it did).

So I replace it, plug the one power connector into the 5770, but when I fire up the system all the fans kick on full speed for a brief bit, then go back to normal but it never boots, no video. Have a 500W power supply and never had power issues with the 260 in there FWIW. Any ideas on what's wrong, or if it's something I'm doing wrong?

Second, would this card even be an improvement if it worked? :p

The drivers for the 260 GPU will not work with the 5770 remove the old drivers and and look on the page linked in the drivers text for your drivers for your version.

Drivers
I had already DDU'd all nvidia drivers off there before swapping cards. But it's doing that immediately after I hit the power button with the 5770 in there. All fans kick on high gear for a little bit then stop, then it never posts as far as i can tell.
