I have 16GB of ram in the laptop with 2 slots being used. When i check the ram usage, the apps are only using around 1GB but somehow 7GB is being utilized.Your using almost 7GB of ram at startup.

My first guess is that you have the memory in the wrong slots so that you are only getting single channel memory. What does CPU-Z say about the memory? Single or dual channel ?slots used 2 of 4
