Question Random bluescreen after wake up?

Hello guys.
I have this system:
CPU i7 4790k non overclocked
PSU Corsair RM750
RAM 32 gigs 4 DIMM of corsair ddr 3 1866 mhz cl 9-10-9-27
GPU ASUS STRIX OC GTX 1080ti
MOBO Gigabyte z97 d3-h rev 1.2
STORAGE 1x Intel 545s ssd 512gb sata, 1x intel 545s 128 gb m.2
COOLING Corsair h115i pro rgb watercooling
KEYBOARD Corsair k95 platinium rgb keyboard
MOUSE Corsair m65 pro rgb mosue
HEADSET Corsair hs70 headset
CONTROLLER xbox one controller wireless
CASE i don't have a case.. the pc is an open test bench
MONITOR1 ASUS xg32vq monitor 1440p@144Hz RGB full @ mini display port {1080 ti}
MONITOR2 PHILIPS 234e5 portrait fullhd {integrated graphics}
MONITOR 3 DELL e17 VGA {integrated graphics}

No OC applied to any of the components or voltage modifications.
My problem is next. When i wake up the PC from sleep, sometimes, random, once a week, or twice a week, i cannot notice a pattern , i get different BSOD messages. few of them are: IRQL_not_less_or_equal , memory_management, bad_caller_pool, exception not handled, thread exception not handled. Some of them i forgot their name.

The problem looks like this.. Or i get a BSOD as soon as i wake up or shortly after, like 30 seconds.

I have all my windows updates and GPU updates or any kind of updates... i only play games installed from battle.net or steam... no viruses here.... I never get a BSOD while gaming, or stress test. It only ocurs after wake up... In games FPS's are outstanding, cannot complain.

1080ti has a max of 68 degrees, and GPU around 55-60.
ran memtest 12 hours.. no errors.. right now, i am really out of options... i would love some help/ideas

clean installs can fix it but in most cases its like using a hammer. There are steps we can take to see if its just software and fixable without a reinstall

that creates a file in c windows/minidump after the next BSOD
copy that file to documents
upload the copy from documents to a file sharing web site, and share the link here and I will get someone to convert file into a format I can read

I used the setting for small dumps.
I used verifier as instructed to generate a BSOD. This BSOD code was "driver_verifier_detected_violation".
I checked what it should be checked (everything except the 2 things that are not meant for w8 and w10), and proceed. At drivers i selected everything but Microsoft ones. after that, i got this dump : https://we.tl/t-O1eh9D0N3b
I managed to get the windows working by going in safe mode, cmd, (verifier /reset) to reset verifier to default parameters.

1st theory, something to do with steam microphone streaming service. Try disabling all steam services temporarily and sleep & wake the pc.

Another idea, try disable c-states in bios. Just picking up a few hints from searching a ntkrnlmp.exe bsod. It's a driver but idk howto fully analyze .dmp's.

Other suggestions : Who crashed

maybe try driver booster 4 on steam to update all your drivers and also run wise reg cleaner for a system tune up and uninstall any programs that aren't in use, that may install some sort of driver or run as a service, and also following a guide to optimize windows services, but don't disable windows updates or windows defender.

I went to device manager and uninstalled the 2 stream microphone and stream speaker. i hope for the best. Shall i run the verifier again?

well, it also worked before, but at some weird random time i got a BSOD when waking up...
I didn;t encountered any bsod, even after waking up and sleep 20 times in a row

I ran the dump. it is a C4 bugcheck by the driver verifier. The drivers named are mssmbios.sys and SteamStreamingMicrophone.sys.

Updating Steam if not is the latest version might help with that.

I'd also suggest you test your RAM module one by one using memtest.

That's you're gpu driver simply update to the latest version from nvidia if you aren't already on version 430.86, win8_drv is all part of the driver package and totally normal, probably there for some sort of legacy support we aren't expected to know all the details of the system but the general info returned on your kind of bsod is some sort of driver issue, and the debug info simply isn't all that user friendly so figuring it out is a pain. not one thing, something else, not getting any specific results on searching your issue either.

Something else to check, have you run windows update, some examples of this bsod were fixed with updates.

This one points to an nvidia notification driver. If nvidia drivers are not the latest update them.

This also might be a memory problem that's why I earlier said check your RAM with memtest. One stick at a time to see if there are errors and the RAM is faulty.

Are you using Asus GPU tweak 2? As this program is part of it, and since you don't have an asus motherboard, it may not be working too well:

The newest Nvidia drivers themselves are suspect as well as I seen people get BSOD from them as well. He currently on the latest so running DDU and running windows update and using older nvidia drivers is another solution.

Yes that's a good point, quite a number of users are complaining about issues with latest nvidia drivers.

I actually forgot to to tell the OP if on latest nvidia drivers try installing older stable versions.

First thing first. I keep al my driver updated. i have this problem from over 6 months. i had all drivers since 6 months before. i do not think the issue is a driver. i memtested ram, i used them one by one in different slots. Still BSOD. As you could have seen in my specification post , I am using intel gpu for secondary monitors. I use gpu tweak for nvidia gpu because it is asus strix model

Try removing your gpu for a while see if the problem persists, run the system on the intel igpu. These kinds of bsods are driver related but driver related could also connect to hardware related.

The problem might also be something that is a previously undiscovered bug, so maybe try contacting microsoft support directly.

I mean you have all the up to date drivers and windows updates, previous versions of drivers tend to have bugs, but if your bug hasn't been patched yet somehow, then you need to let them know you still have a problem.

Another thing to consider, try it the other way around. Switch off the igpu for a while and see if the bug persists. Your system is pretty complex which only makes troubleshooting more complex too.

You should uninstall any software that installs a driver or runs as a service that isn't in use, and also go through a windows service optimisation guide and turn off any services that you don't use, only don't turn off windows update or windows defender.

As far as i know, it tried to access a bad or corrupted memory reference... this error was related to file ntfs.sys

I also got a BSOD when was watching a youtube video about 2 hours ago... I forgot the name of the error, and the strange thing is that the first BSOD did not left any .dmp file behind, looks like the creation of .dmp file failed according to event viewer.

I ran the dump 061019-8828-01.dmp. It's a 50 bugcheck.

The process named here is Chrome.exe. I didn't find any issue with drivers in this one. There's is memory corruption.

I'd suggest you run 'sfc /scannow' from an elevated command prompt.

I'd also suggest checking RAM with memtest one module at a time.

I'm thinking that maybe there is a problem with your gpu, the ram of the gpu could be going off, so, to try and replicate the problem, you should try to run something intensive on your gpu, there are no specific diagnostics for it but you could try running a rendering app like furryball which should probably stress it so if it's gonna crash that will do it. Also a list of cuda apps in case you want to try something else - I have never run any or reviewed them comprehensively, so take your pick and see if you can find something user friendly enough and not too time consuming to run a few tests.

i ran black ops 4. the gpu bram usage was at maximum posibile. great performance, no bsod. i game on daily basis allot of time,
so that gpu is being used. No bsod while gaming. now i am testing ram with memtest, and one stick seems to have a note about row hammer test, but no address error identified

They have a bit flipping test for that, it only runs on linux, you could load it on a bootable usb drive, with linux mint.

Row hammer advice on passmark is nothing definitive suggests, do nothing & live with the glitch, use ecc ram, replace modules or try to determine the cause. The same make and model of memory may exhibit the same symptoms.


How do I fix the memory errors?
Depending on what is causing the memory errors, you can try the following options:

Replace the RAM modules (most common solution)
Set default or conservative RAM timings
Increase the voltage levels
Apply BIOS update to fix incompatibility issues
Flag the address ranges as 'bad'

There are some settings you can tweak in the bios, however I am not expert in memory timings & volts and I wouldn't be at all sure how to diagnose and test the problem. Practically though you can only either, update the bios if not already at the latest version, tweak the memory settings or replace the module(s) if you can find a good reason why they aren't working properly.
