I'm looking to build a PC with GTX 1660 (Gigabyte GTX1660 OC 6GB), 16GB RAM (3000MHz) and a 550W PSU.
I just need to decide with either an R5 2600X or i5 9400F. I'm looking to play games like Rainbow Six Siege and Fortnite on lower graphical settings.
I'm looking to play over 144 frames per second, and am wondering which CPU is better to go with.

I'm willing to say the Ry2600X will have better lower FPS numbers than the 9400F, even if the average and top FPS may favor the Intel one.

If you can find some benchmarks that give you frame times and lower FPS numbers, you'll have a better way to decide for one or the other. That's the only way to ensure you will have a proper fluid frame delivery, which may be even more important than hitting 144FPS all the time. IF the CPU causes stutter, so does your input.

Cheers!

I’m not a fan of the i5. Although slightly better FPS in several cpu heavy games it runs at or close to 100% in certain scenarios. It doesn’t have headroom for the future. We saw what happened to the 4 core i5’s when games started using more than 4 cores and it seems likely the same is happening with the new 6 core i5’s.
