Hello everyone,

A computer I have used for two years without issues has started freezing usually before I can sign into windows but after the bios (it never freezes in the bios). I know of no update that occured too recently. Usually it freezes where I see Aorus splash screen

I can sometimes type log-in credentials before it freezes. Where I do get a BSOD, it has said DPC Watchdog Violation or Critical Process Dead but hat might be from powering off after freezes. Reseting the CMOS did not help and I have switched out my memory sticks one at a time and tested and the issue was unresolved.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600X 3.6 GHz 6-Core
Motherboard: Gigabyte X470 AORUS GAMING 5 WIFI ATX AM4

Good question, I am on version F3 which per Gigabyte's site is not the most recent version.. But, I also notice that for newer versions it says i must update chipset drivers before updating the bios but I think I'd need to access the OS to do that ... (https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/X470-AORUS-GAMING-5-WIFI-rev-10/support#support-dl-bios)

I updated the bios anyway (though unsure if I had the most recent chipset drivers) and am on the most recent version F60e. I am still getting the same issue.

Thanks for the idea, I tested each stick in both Channel A and Channel B on the motherboard. I have also tried unplugging and replugging each cable on the PSU and the 8-pin ATX 12V power connector on the mobo. I have also noticed that the red CPU status light comes on after the PC freezes. I can get to the windows 10 screen just before the log-in page and on rare occasison get past the log in for a minute or two

CPU fan seemed firmly attached but I reseated the CPU fan anyway (and even the cpu while I was at it) and applied new thermal paste. I have been running CPU at stock speed for the past two years but have adjusted the speed up and down modestly just for testing. I am a bit unsure of the default memory frequency (defaults to 2133mhz) because my memory is 3000mhz (but i have adjusted that and it did not solve the problem). I am also unsure of voltage levels but have adjusted the CPU voltage up a bit before but no difference (seems to default to just 1.05 which I thought was low).

CPU temp started at 21 upon start-up and steady state is in the 26-29 degree Celsius area just sitting the bios. Also removed the cmos battery and reinserted it (previously i had reset cmos by using jumper pins). Ill investigate more tmrw
