[citation][nom]captaincharisma[/nom]true but technically the PS3 works with an SSD HDD right now[/citation]

Technically? Either it does or it doesn't. And it doesn't. The PS3 does not ship with an SSD and there is no Sony authorised SSD upgrade. Even if you did upgrade it yourself you wont see any appreciable spped improvement.

http://www.ps3news.com/PS3-HDD/ps3-hard-drive-game-install-loading-hdd-vs-ssd-speed-test-1/

The test obviously was skewed because games are loading from the Blu Ray drive rather than the HDD or SSD.

The reason why future consoles will benefit from SSD are digital distribution, games will be loaded directly to the SSD from online stores and load times will be phenomenal.

As it is, PCs that install games to SSD from online delivery such as Steam already do this. Today. PC's do today what consoles will not be able to do until the next generation of consoles.

they need to be targeting a lower price not gamers. I would bet money it costs them less to make an SSD drive than similar size HD but they are still unwilling to bring the cost down because they can.

I believe I'd be willing to pay 1$/1GB for a SSD. I could use it as my boot up drive or my game partition. Let's see the prices in the spring, when I'm ready for a new computer.

[citation][nom]justcallmeben[/nom]On consoles, IF there is a patch, you have to pay for it.[/citation]

No you do not. While I do not agree with Xavier at all, you don't have to distort the truth to support your argument either. Patches are released for console games a lot more frequently now and I have never had to pay for one, just like I've never had to pay for patches for PC games either.

from the latest patches on games i have seen lately . they were released mostly to combat cheating when going online. ex. when a player is going to loose he wouldn't get penalized when dropping out of the game before he lost. that was a big issue for UFC undisputed video game

Just to throw an extra spanner in the works, there is a perfectly good reason why a PC would be more expensive than a console.

A console doesn't let you write letters, email friends, edit photographs, download torrents, surf the internet or post absurd comments about how much better they are than PCs on forums at Toms Hardware.

PCs cost more because they do more.

But now that it can be shown a PC can do the same job around the same price, remind me again why consoles are better again?

I have to agree with zingam on the cost per gig. SSD's are coming down but until i see them hit 1 for 1 or even 1 for one, cost to gig wise, count me out.

I will say though that the wattage consumption is amazing, i knew it was low but i didn't know it was that low.

OCZ, Intel, Samsung.... keep em comin guys, we're all interested here, we just want it more mainstream pricing. ^^

Dear Xavier,

I find it interesting that you joined Toms on 08/13/09 and this particular thread started 08/13/09 it would appear to me, and hopefully everyone else that....

STOOPID TROLLZ LIEK GAMEZ AN STUFFZ !!! AAAHH NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM.

Kind regards,

Me.

I will say though that the wattage consumption is amazing, i knew it was low but i didn't know it was that low.

Another very fair point. Simply sticking an arbitrary high price tag is not fun. But. If someone said that over, say, a 3 year period the amount of electricity used by a standard HDD was (insert $$$) and an SSD was (insert $$$) then I would save (insert $$$), I would be prepared to pay slightly over the odds to get one knowing I would make the money back over time.

But costs as they are now I would only be make back if I ran it 24 hours a day for the 200 years. That is not very encouraging.

I also agree that RTS should stay on pc, yes i played Starcraft 1, but how many years they need to release the second? But that era is long ago, today is console ports and some bechmark games like Crysis. Also Sony release Psp go with 40% faster processor, so is a shame here too. I mean throw your oldies Psp and buy a new one. I also play Halo wars, is not a gold game, but also not a bad one. At pc the dev think this way: if the game doesnt work - go to upgrade. And i talk in favor of consoles strict about GAMING, not chat not anything else. YOu get the game and is working (with few exceptions). On pc....

I talk about PC for gaming too, they are faster and cheaper, as long as you build it yourself and dont pay the Dell or HP tax.

As long as you buy the parts and build it yourself you can put together a quad-core PC with 4Gb ram and an ATI HD4000 series for about the same cost as a console like an Xbox or a PS3.

All the other stuff the PC can do is a kind of "free bonus" for not being a technically inept console tard. Its a bit like those people who take a crappy ordinary street car and tune it up and burn a Ferrari off at the lights. Put in the time and effort, give your PC a bit of love and it will work magic for you. If you can't tell your thumb from your dick and want it all pre-made for you then buy that Ferrari. Or the Xbox.

Amigo how many pc rigs you change in 10 years (life cycle of ps2?) I know how to build my rig, but after 5 months is old OLD like a Santa. Ok you buy today ati 4xxx (without physx, matter for me) quad etc...and in 3 months is DX 11 ddr 3 3000 mhz. So ? How many $$ we lose in a lifecycle of a console. I already have quad core and the rest. And again is about GAMES only not messenger..and other stuff.

The point I am trying to make is that I could make a PC as powerful as a console, then play games for years to come.

I am glad that you have the technical ability to build a capable PC, so now the excuse is that you are just lazy?

Never mind, so your not lazy, you just dont mind spending over the odds for inferior equipment?

You dont mind spending approx 50% more for games on new release.

You dont mind paying for Xbox live to get online play while PCs are free.

I wish I had your money...

Lol, i never go live on xbox (because i have little time for offline games, i plays RPG and took long time) and im not a one that play MMORPG either. And with ps3 only to patch some games. Nr 2: i only play TOP GAMES like Uncharted or Killzone 2, so many weak rating games arent my point. Nr 3 my xbox is modded so....you think the rest.

So you dont use Xbox Live, which means you aren't using it to it's potential anyway. It is modded so you play pirated games, which gives no advantage over PC cos they can have pirate games too. You have a PS3 AS WELL as an Xbox, so you have 2 consoles.

You have a PC as well, otherwise you wouldn't be posting on the forum. The amount you spent on the 2 consoles you could have upped your CPU to a Quad Core, 8Gb of RAM, an nVidia GT2xx series card (with physix) and a Blu Ray drive. Still had money left over, pay less for games you do pay for, still had free games for the ones you pirate. No matter how you explain it you have poured a huge amount of money down a big black hole.

I accept NEW TECH dude, read on then post, im a man not ASS, and already have quad, but i dont buy ati 4xxx BECAUSE no good GAME is on horizont for ME. I dont need 8 gb ram, BECAUSE again until 2011 no good game is released(except some xbox ports). The conclusion i wanted to show was SSD is good, super ultra fast...BUT for what games? Wow online maybe.
Is my choice with xbox, i go or not on LIVE, again my choice. You embarased if i give 1 one example of game with bugs on pc, but on 360 almost none. Is about Last remnant, so you who love pc much much, what is the bugs and differences from 360? Aside the good things, load faster, rezolution etc....I WANT the bugs and misses. Cmon i wait...

That is what i think, me too. A little hard the answer, and even if you do...beside this i measure the time between loading times on dual and quad core, so i stay a noob...

"In addition to processing power, advanced graphic cards and high-resolution monitors, gamers want a fast storage drive for reduced loading times and faster game performance," said Jim Elliott, vice president of memory marketing, Samsung Semiconductor, Inc.

Genius.

I want it too, but thing that most of SSD are MLC (multi cell), and a SLC one (the best) is 1000 E for 64 gb. The MLC ones im not put in my pc. And Jim Elliott has right but also want money for his company...like MS or SONY>

[citation][nom]demonhorde665[/nom]not sure about the other guy 1.i dont do xbox live , it's not what i got a consoel for i got a console for martial arts games, sports games , race games , any single player game that has no pc version.2. i don't mod my console , nor do i pirate gonsole or pc games 3. i never buy new games, i get both my pc games and console games off amazon.com or with pc games i somtimes get them off steam after thier price has dropped, oddly enough over the last year i avhe paide full retail for 4 pc games , and i payed around 6-20 dollars for all but one 360 games ( that was the game i bought witht eh system but it was reduced prcie cos it was an older game). so basscially i have paid the same if not less on console games compared to pc games. 3. i don't need to spend a bunch of money on updates i curently don't need my modest gaming pc does every thing i need it to, runs every game on my monitors max res , with 4X or 8X aa applied. if i spend any money on pc hardware , it will be to build my self a real school workstation with a workstation video card so i can improve my 3ds max render times 3. you are real ass hat if you can't accpet teh simple fact that some peopel just prefer a consol for gaming , what ever reason that may be , me personally i like consoles for certain kinds of games , same as i like pc's for a different kind of games. according to you I'm a "retard" and "i'm throwing away my money " because i don't want to limit myself to just the genres that Pc's tend to do best. i'll say this last thing to you dude , what is so wrong with some one jsut liking what they like i ahve no qualms with you just liking pc , nor do i have qualms other liking just consoles neither of those are a waste of money if you like them. I am also a muscian 15 years , when i was 16 i got an american made Fender p-bass guitar (aka one of teh best bass guitars youc an get), when i was 25 i got myself a Rickenbacher bass , was that a waste of money ? i'd say not since i love both basses and they both have soemthign differnt to offer as well as some of the same things just dlivered in in a different manner. think on this for a bit and maybe then you can stop wasting your time with the constant PC vs console trolling[/citation]

Dude, about time someone said it
"I just prefer my console"
But trying to say it is better just isn't. I personally own an Xbox too, but I just find it fun watching people impossibly defend a position they are better.

Nice guitar by the way.

And whe the 360 first came out, compared to any PC parts available it was the king of gaming. The only problem with that is a console has a fixed specification for the life of the line. It has aged badly, it was a Ferrari, but has aged by comparison, and yes I can buy parts to build a machine as good as an Xbox 360 for the same price. I dont know where you buy yours from, but I get good deals as a trade account, I migrate my O/S to the new machine and keep the same empty case and PSU as previous. If you think this is cheating, it is no differant than the Xbox 360 buyer upgrading from his old Xbox 1.

I will even go as far as to say when the next console comes out it will tower above all PC gaming for a while, so if your budget permits buy one, but to anyone thinking of buying an Xbox 360 today, dont, buy a PC instead.

Console aging, but is not that the point, the good part FOR ME at least, i play 10 years game that WORK on that system, what deal? A decent gpu is at a price of ps3. Until Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2 how many rigs we change? Lets see...2011...not a good sign.Is about gaming here, not pure power with daily updates, and MLC SSD is out of the question for me. Even after 4 years from here i buy the Ps3 for HIS FRANCHISE of gaming.
I respect the pc from the angle that console games are been made on them, and from the PAST times with good games. I dont like it that Starcraft 2 is divided in 3 parts...cmon is a lame excuse to make MORE money, they could make one total game.
