Scanner install problem

I'm trying to install a Umax 3400 scanner on an XP computer. It's a USB
scanner that uses presto page manager and vista scan as the software.
The installation readme says to install the software first which is fine
for a USB install, It also says that XP might install it's own version
of scanning software when the USB plug goes in after the software is
installed and XP recognizes the scanner. It recommends uninstalling the
Windows version. How do I both find and then uninstall the windows
version?
Thank you very much
Dudley

If you install the software first, then when you plug in
the scanner through the USB port, Windows should search
for the best drivers(which is the software you
installed), and use them.

Thank you, but I have discovered the issue goes a bit deeper. The
scanner isn't XP compatible at this point.
I'm getting another one.

Hi, Dudley.

That sounds like a good decision. The "ground rules" are that Microsoft
writes Windows; hardware manufacturers write the drivers that enable their
products to work with Windows. If Umax is unable or unwilling to deliver
compatible drivers, then it makes sense to switch to a scanner that IS
supported under WinXP - and there are MANY available.
