Hello,

i just installed a second sata Harddrive into my system and i noticed the second drive runs extremely slow.

I ran a benchmark on the 2 drives and the results show some major speed issues on the 2nd drive.

Random Access 13.3ms
Cpu Utilization 1%
Average Speed 50.3 MS/s
Busrt Speed 123.4 MB/s

Drive 2 Maxtor 300g Sata
Random Access 13.7ms
Cpu Utilization 26%
Average Speed 3.4MB/s
Burst Speed 3.5 MB/s

Im running Windows xp SP2
Dual Xeon 3.20 800 FSB 1 Meg Cache

thank you
Steve

I am ONLY intimately familiar with a subset of Motherboards but I have run across motherboards that don't handle second SATA drives as well.

One thing you could do, is setup the NEW drive as the ONLY drive in the system and see if the results are similar to what you expect then it could be how the motherboard handles the additional SATA drive. If the results are still crappy then it's more of a drive oriented issue.

That's what I would try to try to sort this out better.

Most likely though it's just a setting somewhere.

You know I've read that sometimes HDD's from diff manufacturers will have problems working together. I know that for my DFI Lanparty UT nf4 Ultra-D mobo, they recommend using drives from the same manufacturer to avoid this problem.

did you ever figure out what the problem is. I have a A8V-E deluxe motherboard with amd64 3500+ and my sencond Segate SATA Drive works at 3.3 mb/s too, and it's really slow.
Let me know if you had figured out a problem.
