Question Secondary SSD doesn't show up in Windows after CPU upgrade ?

Just tried installing again and this time I manually rebooted successfully. This time I tried it with chipset driver version 3.08.06.148.

But after this install, I don't see the IDE ATA/ATAPI controller options in my device manager even when I click the show hidden. It seemed to have all disappeared after I uninstalled everything from it?

Try even older chipset driver version.

May be your windows 10 hasn't been updated for a very long time and you're still on some very old release version.
Check windows 10 release version with winver.

Anyway- you still haven't explained presence of Intel storage controller drivers in Device Manager.
Did you change motherboard from Intel to AMD ?
Why didn't you reinstall windows after that?

But AMD installer should give you a confirmation and ask to reboot the computer when it's successfully installed . Are you sure you got the right one? The fact that the drive appears in boot options is quite suspicious to me.

I was just able to confirm right now that this SSD works on a different system. So it's not a dead drive issue

I've already updated windows to the latest a few days ago.

I haven't changed my motherboard. It's been the same one since I first put it together in 2019. I have no idea why Intel storage driver was there. Even my previous CPU was AMD. So no new install of window or anything.

I have also just tested this SSD on a different system and it's working so it's definitely not a faulty drive.

Did you reuse windows OS drive from some other computer at that time?

Your system is missing sata controller drivers.
Until you install them, no sata drive will be detected in windows.

Try different AMD chipset drivers until you find one, that works.

You can also try installing AMD AHCI driver (motherboard drivers page - SATA/RAID/AHCI section)
Extract it, find sub-folder sata_AHCI\W764A
Right-click on inf file and choose install.

BTW - are you sure this is correct motherboard model name:
Aorus X470x Gaming 7 rev 1.1​
Check with CPU-Z - motherboard section.

Yes it seems like it's missing the SATA controller drivers. Is the only way to install these drivers by installing different chipset drivers until one works?

Tried installing other

I checked in CPU-Z and the southbridge states AMD X470 Rev. 51.

Yes I tried this but I have finally figured out the issue.

I just had to configure RAID in my BIOS and install the AMD RAID Installer (SATA, NVMe RAID) driver from AMD's site and now my SSD shows up!

Thank you so much for the help to try and navigate through everything! Really appreciate it!

It makes sense now. Replacing the CPU did reset the BIOS to default settings, so RAID disabled , but since your drive was RAID it disappeared. And that also could explain why it showed up as a bootable drive.

You should take a note that you are in RAID. This thread would have been two or three comments long if we knew that 😉
