As the Subject header reads, I'm looking for a SFF case with InstantON and runs on the AMD platform. I read the review for an AOPEN SFF case on TMG, but it uses the i865G chipset. Anyone got any suggestions?

Thank you.

SFF sucks, and you can't even provide 1 reason that makes it as good or better than the alternatives.

Crash, you may have not read my post fully, but your reply sounds as if you anticipated me backing up my statements on why I think it's better than alternatives. The thing is, though, I never even alluded to saying anything of that sort. Speaking of that, can you explain to me your opinion of why you feel SFF is not up to par? The strong point for me for getting one is it the instanton technology. This technology is also on labtops from the likes of Toshiba, for instance. Since I'm not in the market for a labtop, a SFF case with this instanton technology appears to be my best option.

I would count on "Instant-On" comming to more desktop boards. I don't think the feature is currently worth the penalty of using an SFF enclosure. Micro ATX desktops are shorter and wider. Micro ATX slim towers are narrower and taller. Some cases look good laying down OR standing up. Either way they can save more space than SFF while offering better expansion, more upgrading paths, standard power supplies, etc. SFF is a disposable form factor similar to "book sized" PC's that everyone here hates.

A slimline case is definitely better for airflow and expansion purposes, no question. While I'm sure Instant-on will advance to other form factors like traditional desktop boards, as you stated, the selling point, at least for me, is this technology in a small space that can potentially replace many components, i.e. DVD player; DVR/PVR. You say that everyone here hates these shoebox size PC's. What's interesting is that THG just reviewed 13 bareboned PC's and gave a few thumbs up to some of those PC's. Now does THG review these PC's because they expect to get more hits from people like me. Or, is THG genuinely attracted to these SFF PC's?

I didn't say people hate SFF, after all SFF looks like those cheap home audio solutions you get in Wal-Mart, and those sell like hotcakes. I said booksized PC's (I think that's what I said), you know, the stuff Gateway and Compaq has produced so much of. In fact, many of those are FlexATX, which is what SFF is based on. Yet so many people call those systems "junk".

A perfect home theater PC will replace a game console, VCR, DVD player, and act as an internet terminal, as well as doing multimedia content. In order to do that, you want a system that integrates well with your quality home theater component system, and the only form factor that fits are Micro ATX desktops. SFF is taller and narrower, the added height means it takes up more space on the rack, and the narrower width means it won't match other Home Theater components, which tend to be around 17" wide. Coolermaster makes a nice Micro ATX desktop that uses a standard sized (PS/2 size) power supply, which allows you to use any hardware you want. Micro ATX will allow for a double width graphics card with 2 PCI slots free. A "perfect" home theater PC will use a HARDWARE COMPRESSION TV-Tuner card, preferably one that supports HDTV, and have a top quality sound card. That's 2 PCI slots where FlexATX only has one.
