Question Should i use hdmi 2.0 or Mini display port

Ok so i own an MSI laptop (GL62M 7RDX) and bought an external 144hz monitor. I connect using hdmi from tbe laptop to external monitor and the output from the external monitor is not 144hz. Do i have to use the mini display port to achieve 144hz on the external monitor ?

Its a Acer Kg241qa 144hz monitor . Resolution is 1920x1080

Then both should work.

Displayport will output the highest hz rates.
Since your monitor supports dp, I would use that.
You will need a minidp to dp cable.
