I am the lucky receipent of the Trojan "EliteBar". How swell. The
antivirus sites say to show Hidden Files and Folders by Tools/Folder
Options/View/ Click on the button saying "Show hidden files and folders". BUT
when I get to the "View" tab, there is NO button to show hidden files. In the
"View" tab under "Folder views", there are two buttons labeled "Apply to all
folders' and "Reset all folders". Underneath that there is a large white
empty box labeled "advanced settings". At the bottom of the page there is
another button labeled "Restore Defaults", then "OK, Cancel, and Apply' at
the bottom right, but not the button I need.

So how do I get Windows XP to show me the hidden files to delete the
nasty ones that give me a popup every minute?

Thanks for help in advance!

Dave,

There is no button for Show hidden files and folders. This item is in the
list under Advanced settings, where you have an empty box.

Go here...
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
Read the instructions at the top.
Scroll down to and click on...
155. Enable/Disable Show Hidden Files/Folders

showhiddenfiles.vbs is what you will get, double click it when it's
downloaded.

Dave,

Obviously something has caused your 'Advanced Settings' box area to
disappear. Not running any Spyware removals, MS Antispyware for example? In
the meantime, click into the Control Panel > click Add or Remove Programs >
uninstall any spyware programs shown. Now click Start > Run > type msconfig,
click OK.

click the 'Startup' tab > uncheck any reference to spyware, click OK &
reboot. Run a spyware program again.
