Tom's, when I get fed up enough with your main page articles, I'll just go get my news somewhere else.

A few Apple articles don't bother me nearly as much as your Fermi "coverage" did.

I think you guys are going overboard if you take ALL Apple news off the main news site. I was one of those people that complained about the onslaught of iPad news. when you have 7 (i believe) articles in a row that are about the iPad, that seems kind of excessive. Is it really "news" taht you can take your iPad through a security checkpoint at an airport without taking it out of your bag? Is it "news" that somebody installed an iPad into a truck? Thats the kind of stuff I don't care about. What I don't mind reading are the specs of the iPad....how it compares to other tablets; performance and value vise.

most of those who complain wouldn't bother with the feature.
i am not bothered with apple news except maybe on some articles in which the writer is quite emotional or personal with their experience with the brand, which me, a non-apple user will not appreciate.

Anyway it's not the article about apple per say, it's the 20+ articles about the ipad alone. Sure I can see mabye 4 to 5 but unless you start producing producing articles in the same quantity time frame about other hardware, well wth do you expect?

I have no problem with Apple news, or iPad news. But it's getting ridiculous lately with the iPad. On the front page right now there are 6 iPad stories. Another 6 on page 2, 8 on page 3, and 7 on page 4.

It would be one thing if the iPad were at all revolutionary. But it's just a big iPhone/iTouch with some e-reader possibilities. What's the big deal?

"Technology is technology. There's a lot to know about, and it's good to understand things from all angles."

You seriously need to apply this to reviews... Current articles are missing quite the bunch of angles as opposed to the old days considering Tom's is even larger ("an order of magnitude several times that") than before.

For example your graphics reviews. You guys only compare vs the leading opposition. Most card buyers are using generations old tech on new OS's and have nothing substantiating to compare to. I'm still using 2900Pro's on WinServer08 R2 because i'm still playing my games maxed out (YES IT CAN PLAY MAX CRYSIS@30FPS+) but I have to read crap that only goes as deep as the current generation of cards. That doesn't tell me jack about the cards itself, the worth of upgrading, nor the unbiased view of which card does the better job. I'm not even talking compare an ATI 5 series to my card, but for shits sake at least cover 3 generations. At least I can compare my card to a 38xx series... (You think people with that new Spinpoint HDD give a crap about the new Seagate or WD performance? NOOOOOOOOO. The people with the OLD HDD's give a crap.)

get more intelligent reviews/reviewers

I like the news. The reviews suck. I go elsewhere for that.

Well it is tech news so I don't think its bad. It would be no different if other companies came out with some new hardware for you to review it. You guys just keep doing your thing and don't worry about the other people crying over Tech news.. whether it be apple Intel or whoever.

Its not so much a matter of the articles presence, its about the advertisementish feel of them. To me they don't seem (and I don't read them, just the headline) so much as news/reviews as fan gossip. To the tech-savy reader of Tom's, there is very very very very little interesting or revolutionary about the iPad. It has no place here.

BTW, the ones more likely to read about the 5000 series GPU are also more likely to utilize firefox + ghostery. They also dont forward links to everyone saying "o my gosh, you have to read about this kool new iphone!"

Meh, I don't come here to read news about crApple anyway. There's not enough Apple/PC internetz fanboi drama at Tom's. I go to DailyTech or Gizmodo or some other tech blog for that!

@ shadow187, and the “just don’t click people”: I would guess a large number like myself view the articles via the RSS feed, and rarely commit.
All the stories come in much like email in outlook, and generally you have to read about halfway thought it just to even tell if its something new or more spam.

Tom's Hardware has pretty much become iFanboi & nFanboi, so much so I rarely even bother to check it but once a week now.
New iPhone, iPad, OS, Bug, sure that’s a worthy story, maybe more so for Tom's Guide than Tom's Hardware but news none the less.
700 Articles on Apple that say the EXACT same thing just simply reworded differently or 500 Articles of Box art for box for a nVidia product not so much.
Had I not just cleaned out my Feedreader I would of posted a screenshot nearly every other article was more or less rabid fanboi spewing's for one of the two brands.
I have a iPhone, I'm a nVida guy, but there is a line between news and information and what looks more like paid advertising from the two companies.
If you realize the problem is bad enough to create filter, you already know you have a problem.
My question is why not simply at deal with it at the editorial level where it should be dealt with and ask before posting a article A.) is this newsworthy? or does it look more like it is paid advertising propaganda? B.) Have we already said this? and C.) Have we already said this more than 1000 times in the past 24hrs…etc

The reason I have Tom's Hardware is in the feedreader and not Tom’s Guide is not is that I want information for PC components, testing, and comparison. Additional information is nice, but not the reason I read it.

[citation][nom]tuannguyen[/nom]If you really must know, there is usually a 4X to 5X greater read rate of Apple related news than their are other hardware related news. That may sound surprising but that's what the stats says. For example, when we posted our first details about ATI's 5000 series GPUs in the news, it was hot, and did around 11,000 PVs. Comparatively, typical Apple news do an order of magnitude several times that. Since news is only single paged, this easily indicates that there is far more interest. Despite this being Tom's Hardware, that's what our stats show, internally, and via Google Analytics. But that's besides the point. My point is that there are some who don't want to see it AT ALL, and keep complaining and bashing about it, so I am giving them a solution--at least a temporary one until we can implement an integrated news filter system so that they can customize TH to what they'd like to see./ Tuan[/citation]
It's always interesting to know that people who comments are usually the people who have negative things to say about the topic. Ironically, it's also the people who are NOT interested on the subject that will click on the link first. Usually, they will read the content diagonally to comment more quickly. The people that are genuinely interested in the article will simply read it and be on their way.

Thanks Tuan,

Thanks for bowing to the pressures of people who cant be bothered to simply not click a link about Apple, because simply having the title on screen is soooooo offensive to their delicate sensibilities.

As far as pageview stats, maybe if you had a counter on the story and if there is a story with 100,000 hits and someone writes to complain then they just look stupid as it is obvious that SOMEONE cares about it.

Certainly adding a hitcounter for the story does more to increase your rep rather than adding a filter for content which just looks like self imposed censorship.

Far be it from me to tell you how to run the journalistic side of Tom's, but this is just my opinion.

Tuan,

Screw 'em. Lots of Apple news before the release of the gimpy iPad, lots of Windows news before the release of Vista SP3... err, windows 7 rather. That's how news works, you can't report on stuff that isn't happening.

They CAN, however, not click on the clearly labeled links if they don't want to read that particular news subject.

I repeat: screw 'em.

It's not the Apple news. I love to hear about what Apple is doing.

I just don't like to see 10 articles on Apple's new product for every article on android, Windows Mobile, and the others combined. Every news site seems to take it to excess when reporting on Apple products.

When Windows Phone 7 came out, there was like 2 articles the entire time. iPad comes out and it's an Apple "teen-boy gets first porn magazine" fest.

Wow, I'm surprised. That's showing quite some love for the knuckleheads who don't know how to NOT CLICK LINKS THAT THEY DON'T WANT TO READ.
To be honest, if i'm reading a site about PC hardware I dont want to see 6 articles about the IPAD or iphone like i've been seeing here. If I want apple news i'll read gizmodo.

[citation][nom]Orf Quarenghi[/nom]I think that tomshardware is quite balanced when talks about apple-related news. Believe me, I can't stand apple and (most of) his users, but ignoring what apple is doing (even you consider it to be an enemy) is simply silly - a Sun Tzu would be appropriate here... ^^_[/citation]
I'm sorry, but 6 articles in a row about the iPad is not balanced. I'm not an Apple hater or anything like that, and I like to read an article or two about them. But C'mon, have you seen how many iPad articles there were here? Was there nothing else going on in the tech world? I'm not bashing the site or Tuan or anything, I just think you over did it on the iPad articles. I actually stayed away for a day because all I saw was iPad, iPad, iPad, all the way down the news list. I read a couple of the articles, then just got tired of reading about it. So I did what any intelligent person would do: I simply didn't click on the artcles I didn't want to read. But as a news and information site, is that what you want your readers to do? Not click on the articles?

[citation][nom]elrusso[/nom]Apple News like "The new iPad" or "New version of iPhone" it's ok, but there are lots of news about the same product again and again. I don't want to stop hearing about Apple, just moderate the news about them. Thanks, salutes.[/citation]

stop crying and skip over the article. problem solved....or are you just too stupid or lazy to move the mouse? Nobody is making you click on the links. What next? You are tired of the ads on the side? Do you click on those? No? Well why click on the apple new links then!? ra-tard

and yet most of your news sites are created on an apple. See my above comment. Stop crying and learn not to click on EVERYTHING.

I find it interesting, almost every piece Tom's Hardware makes defending their stances on a subject is almost always Apple related.

I don't think anyone minds Apple news, but I have to admit, why does it seem that the headlines are 60% Apple, when they have such a low market share? Why is it other popular hardware news/review sites are able to provide such a wider range of content without filling it so full of Apple news?

I come here for hardware news, engineering news, pc news, neat little gadget news and anything else the pc/mac world might find interesting that Tom's HARDWARE wants to share. I've been a reader since the existence of the site.

I enjoy their 3D Rendering articles, I enjoy their apple articles, I enjoy their Yacht articles and if there is something that I don't enjoy, I DONT CLICK ON IT.

This is a free site, so I feel I have no right to complain.
