I have a pent 2.4c with stock heat sink fan. My computer runs around 36 degrees C. I built my computer to last a long time. I am talking hopefully 2 + years. Will the parts in my computer last longer and perform at better standards if I install more fans.. I currently have 4 case fans and conteplating buyin a pci slot fan for my ATI 9700 non pro. (I have a 430 watt psu should be plenty) Any advice also with name brands to look for for new case, heat sinks and pci fans would be greatly apreciated.

Price isn't a big problem as long as it will help my system last a longer time

I've never seen a well built PC fail in under 10 years. You say you have a 430W PSU? Is it brand name or generic? BTW, 36C is an excellent temp, you don't need extra cooling. TRUST ME!

Intelligence is not merely the wealth of knowledge but the sum of perception, wisdom, and knowledge.

A couple things

0) Two years if you don't push your system should be easy.
A disk drive may go but then Western Digital guarantees for 3 yrs if you want that "insurance".

1) Do you plan to run continuously 24/7. Or only a couple hours per day?

2) Temperature is the enemy of electrical/electronic components but you seem to have plenty of fans. However if your room temp is 40C that's not going to help alot.

3) If your area has irregualar power. California brownouts, possums shorting out the wires, etc. You might want to consider a UPS with power filtering on it.

4) You can spot check the temperatures of your system.
Take note of the motherboard, processor and other temps
of your system from the Bios hardware monitor.

Then calibrate against SisSoft Sandra or you Mobo's monitor utility or some other software.

5) PCI slot fan sounds good  .

6) round cables

7) Disk drive cooling if you ever need it.
..............................
Wow 36C. That is very low. I have a 1400Celeron.
My Mobo Temp is 40C and CPU Temp about 48C idle. I've had
that for .....ahh 3 yrs. A disk drive went and a CDROM
that's about it.

I'm sure other people going to come along with heatsink and case suggestions  . You can always check out the overclockers area for ideas too.

haha...

2+ years is nothing...don't worry...you seem to up tight about this...cpu's are very resilient contrary to popular beleif...i had a k6 running at 100c for more than a month and ya know what...she is still running today...her idle temp is over 50c...

Don't get too hung up in temperatures...as long as you are not over 55c under load then you are fine...

If i put my k6 in a Ferrari it would be faster than your your pentium 4 or Athlon XP

haha thanks for the posts... I have a 430 true power from antec... I plan on upgrading but just want to make sure it works for a while... I don't plan on over clockin till my p4 warenty goes up anyways or untill I buy a new system.. Thanks for all the comments. I think I will just get a pci slot fan just for better air flow

"100c"

holy cr@p

i had a k6-2 350 that i overclocked, when i touched the heatsink it actually burnt me quite badly, replaced it with a 500 and it hardly even warmed.

a k6 500? Dream on man...i am 90% sure their production was cancled...

About my k6-2....this happened 2 or 3 years ago...the heatsink fan started slowly dying (got clogged with dust)...i was too lazy to open up that old baby AT case...i totally forgot that the fan was failing (after it stoped making noise)...a month and a half later...i checked the bios...and the temp was 95c at idle in the bios...then i remembered the dying fan and DOH!

If i put my k6 in a Ferrari it would be faster than your your pentium 4 or Athlon XP

"a k6 500? Dream on man"
sorry, i meant a k6-2 500, never owned a k6, it was really good and really cool, maybe it was one made on .18 micron, although i thought it was only the + versions that were .18 micron.

did it run stabally at 95c? if so that is quite impressive.

my k6-2 350 burnt me after i tried running it without a fan, the good old days, when 500mhz was 500mhz, and not some stupid pr number.

If u keep ur system always on,it will last longer(except the mechanical parts such as HDD,FDD.........).There are several other issues however(such as electricity charges)
