[SOLVED] SSD GOODRAM CX400 1Tb - 100% activity spikes and hult

Hello. Recently bought that ssd and have problem with it. For example - after i copy\paste file on same ssd disk it will spike disk activity to 100% (in task manager) few times and while this spike takes place the whole disk is "busy". I filmed short video where i copy\paste a 4 gb file on same ssd disk to show you what im talking about -

Also i tried that ssd on another pc, new sata cable, latest sata controller drivers - nothing helps.

Perhaps your SSD is actually faulty, then...

Get a new one (perhaps Goodram is not quite the same as Crucial or Samsung), swap it, and you will know.

(There is a firmware download tool at Goodram, but, the date of the last release seems to be Nov/Dec 2018; given your issues, I'd see if it would take the update, even to reflash it to the same version just as a refresh. Or, just RMA it and be done with it...)

If this is a prebuilt desktop or laptop, include the make and model as well as the SKU to the system. You should also list the version of the OS and the version for your BIOS to the platform.

btw i have my system installed on goodram cx300 480 gb and it runs without such problems for 1.5 year/

No i have only 2 SSD - goodram CX300 480 gb on disk C: and goodram CX400 1024 gb on disk D:. And i have problem only with that CX400 ssd. I have no other cache disks, ram disks or something. And btw i have no HDD on my pc.

Well, I saw transfers of 200 MB/sec initially, gradually slowing to 100 MB/-70 MB/sec, and, if random file sizes, that might be quite normal...(as it was in Russian or similar, can't tell what was being read/or written to/from where to where....



Run CrystalDIskMark on the drive, and see how the sequential reads/writes look...(looks like a recording of CrystalDiskMark I saw on YOutube on a smaller CX400 unit showed 550+ MB/Sec sequential reads, assuming you have a recent, semi-modern SATA3 spec connection on your mainboard...

Naturally, during especially during large writes, we'd expect it to be at/near 100% busy during active file transfer operations...

Naturally, the problem is that the 100% disk load spikes comes right AFTER the file is already copied. Dont you watch on that task manager on my youtube video?

When I do large copies tofrom one drive to another, WIndows file transfer /explorer shows it complete long before the job is fully/truly done, as the drive stays busy several more seconds...

Just because the data has been sent from WIndows' perspective (fancy file explorer GUI may be finished, etc.), but this does not mean it is quite yet fully copied/written....; cached data may still be actively being written, for instance...and new files possibly indexed, etc..

(I'd confirm write caching is enabled for the drives in question within device manager/storage/CX400/policies)

Does the drive seem to do well in CrystalDiskMark seqeuntial reads/writes?

Copying/pasting would quickly read the data into system RAM at warp speed, then resend it to the drive, first filling the cache of whatever size, which then drastically slows the transfers on large writes....

It almost seems as if you wish the writing could occur as fast as the reading? it can't and won't once file sizes exceeds the size of the write cache buffer.

In my video at 0:44 the file finished its transfer. But after that there was 6! spikes of 100% disk load with disk fully busy. Finally this ended at 3:17 with last spike. IS IT NORMAL? Hust watche the full video and look at that task manager activity time graph...

Write speed is not important to me. The problem is that the ssd disk hults with these activity spikes for several minutes after file was copied.

And again - write speed is not important to me. The problem is that the ssd disk hults with these activity spikes for several minutes after file was copied.

I did observe similar (near identical) activity within task manager copying to a conventional drive...

As someone else suggested, do the same experiment from within the OS drive...

You said the SSD exhibits the same behavior in another PC...

If you are convinced that the writes (including the task manager's displayed GUI activity) should not take several seconds to complete the writes, your next option is seeing if the behavior is any drastically different with a different SSD. Unless dealing with an SSD with no cache vs. an SSD w/ a large cache, I'd expect similar behavior.

Any time you are dealing with very large write operations, the drive slows drastically...(I'm only saying the true writes may only be complete once all that activity within task manager is done, not just when the little window of the transfer closes and makes it appear as though it is done.)

Good luck in your efforts. (If you drive is truly faulty, their webpage says they have a 3 year warranty....

Ofcourse i done that couple of times on my disk C: that is SSD CX 300 480 gb. And there are NO spikes of 100% disk activity nor disk hult after file is copied.



Dont you see that this behavior of ssd (even cheapest ssd you can find) - isnt normal? Try to copy\paste some 4 gb file on your own ssd drive and look at task manager active disk graph - is it spikes for 3 minutes after file already copied? Is your ssd drive hults up to six times during that 3 minutes AFTER file was copied?

Well, that might be a great.. but there is not. Official goodram software for ssd "OPTIMUM SSD Tool" show no available firmware for this ssd. And i dont want to brick this ssd playing with some 3rd party software.

you either have a windows installation/configuration error (solved by reinstalling windows) or an actual hardware issue. others here have directed you to test that ssd in a different computer and see if it acts the same. if it does, it's faulty, if it's normal in another pc then your windows machine needs a reinstall or has other hardware issues.

you have to start testing and ruling things out.

I would test but none of my SSD's are as slow as the Cx400 and I have 6 SSD's in my pc alone...

In your video, I noticed you copy from D: to D: . Does the same thing happen copying from C: to D: ?

Can you post a link to an as-ssd screenshot? The numbers in the top left will tell us if it's 4k aligned correctly.
Also of the drives policy tab in device manager> properties please so we can see the caching policy.
Lastly, lets see the size of the clusters/allocation units.
In Admin cmd prompt type in fsutil fsinfo ntfsinfo D: and show us that screenshot as well please.

Thats we talking about. I sent the video with all info about my problem to goodram support 2 days ago and waiting for response.
