Well, this has been so far the biggest mystery I've had with an SSD, so it may be something silly.

Here's the scenario: I was calmly playing one night, like usual. I decide to shutdown my PC for a while, when i go to turn it back again, I get the typical "Reboot and select proper boot device", so I think, I'll just go into my BIOS and reselect the boot drive (i only have this drive anyway) which was my typical solution with this particular issue. Here it gets funny: I can't enter my bios. No matter how much I restarted my PC, I couldn't access the BIOS, whenever I tried doing so, the screen just went black and nothing really happened further than that.

I tried resetting the cmos but again, not much happened, I still had the same error.

Fast forward a day, I tried the ssd on another pc, this time i didn't place it as the main boot drive, I just connected it, and ironically enough, I was able to access all of the information easily, as if nothing had happened, I immediately made a backup of my files and what not. I also checked the health of the SSD with CrystalDiskInfo, everything seemed fine.

I then set the boot priority to that drive, everything was perfectly set, and it still booted into the other one. I then took out that drive and let my SSD alone, and I still got the "Reboot and select proper boot device" message. I then tried every possible way of fixing it, from windows troubleshooter, to the media creation tool troubleshooter, finally, out of a loss of patience, I formatted the SSD and reinstalled Windows.

Even after all of that, the error didn't go away. I just can't seem to boot into this drive no more.

I don't even want to fix it anymore, im just using it as a secondary drive. But still: what happened?

The SSD is a Crucial BX500

Hello,
I migh be too late, you have probably fixed your issue, but I was dealing with similiar problem. After updating bios version on my lenovo laptop, my ssd was "gone". I was just getting a blue screen with an error for inaccessible boot device. I was trying everything and following tons of internet advices, but no luck. In the end something simple just fixed it. In bios thre's an option "VMD Controller" (you don't even have to go to hidden bios settings), so i disabled that, restarted the PC and everything went back to normal. I hope that helps someone.
