I have a 2 year old MSI GS65 8RE which I recently gave took in for a cpu fan replacement. One week after getting it back I started to notice some some slight flickering in the taskbar area which after a few days turned into full length horizontal lines covering approx 25% of the taskbar at 125% scaling. I have seen lots of people having issues with horizontal lines but mine seems to be a very strange case. I'll list my observations:

  1. The horizontal lines blink exactly every 3.5 seconds View: https://imgur.com/a/wHrimQQ
  2. These lines mirror the top part of the display
  3. When I change the refresh rate from 144Hz to 60Hz, the blinking behavior of the lines is gone completely, instead replaced with alternating 4 second cycles of nothing at all and 5 white/black lines that last for the entirety of the other 4 seconds) View: https://imgur.com/a/KMIBJgN
What I have done/tried:

  1. Uninstalled/Reinstalled both Nvidia and Intel graphics drivers
  2. Went to the BIOS screen and it does appear there too indicating it's not a driver issue
  3. Tried an external display and it does not appear on it
  4. Booted a live session on PopOS which exclusively uses the Nvidia GPU or Intel iGPU depending on settings and it happens there too in both cases, so mostly not a graphics problem.
  5. Opened up the laptop and checked cleaned and reinserted the display ribbon cable to the motherboard. No change
  6. Tried all other standard troubleshooting methods like removing power, changing location to check for any interference and also tried applying pressure on the screen
I called up the service center and those guys are clueless about this issue and suggest replacing the entire screen which in my country is turning out to be very expensive. If you guys have any idea about this please do help me out.

Thanks in Advance

Did you reset the bios and make sure the settings in it are right?
