I got this message when i switched on my pc saying
"the system has recovered from a serious error"
with the following report on the eventvwr

my pc specs are
AMD athlon II x2 240 processor @ 2.8 GHz
Asus M2N68AM-plus mobo
2x1GB transcend DDR2 ram
Windows xp profession sp2
with a onboard nvidia graphics
and a 450W power supply

My pc kept crashing sometimes back a week ago when i had my ati radeon HD4650 graphic card so i removed it from my pc , did a clean installation of windows once again , updated my mobo bios to the latest available and also changed the CMOS battery . So after this i was just using the onboard graphics and suddenly now i got this message which makes me go mad ! please help me with this problem . thanks in advance.

P.S. yesterday the PC went still , with no beeps sounds and nothing at startup with just the power LED glowing and the bios too didnt load up , so i removed the battery and RAMS and switched it on and it started to beep and again i inserted everything and it worked ! but now getting this problem 🙁

it also got the following error report in event viewer


Error code 1000008e, parameter1 c0000005, parameter2 805398b3, parameter3 b6b8f9e8, parameter4 00000000.

Let's try (1) stick of RAM and run Prime95 + Blend, monitor the temps with HW Monitor. Try (1) stick for each running an hour, the temps especially for the first 15 minutes must be monitored for a 'spike.'

Also, I'll post the manual settings for your RAM. Please provide a link to you EXACT set of RAM otherwise I need screenshot of the 'SPD' tab from CPU-z - http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html

Welcome to Tom's Forum! :)

The Error code 1000008E is a memory violation error with a variety of root causes. Often associated with GPU, RAM or other device. You'd need to upload the complete (.dmp) file(s) or at least the last (3) to see if it's the same cause. I use 'WinDbg' to view the files, but you can do the same.

My 'feeling' is RAM, so I'd create a bootable CD/DVD of Memtest86+and run for an hour or less if you start seeing a ton of errors. Download the ISO/zip file and burn a CD/DVD - http://www.memtest.org/

i used a software called Blue screen view to read the .dmp files

ntoskrnl.exe and win32k.sys when listed by themselves, as suspected, are as I first posted. I'd run Memtest.

I assume in Window's Device Manager that there are no {? or !} listed drivers. You also stated this happened before and after you re-installed XP.

Meanwhile, you should go into the BIOS: Load (Optimized) Defaults and set your Date an Time.

As a test for XP, run MSCONFIG then select Diagnostic and reboot. See if the BSOD continues.

Report back.

Hi Jaquith , sorry for my late response , as it was late at night yesterday i was unable to reply you

Now I did that memtest you said about , and it showed no errors ! and did that diagnostic test too , but that BSOD didn't show up . Now it is working fine with out any errors from yesterday eve . Any how it would be great headache for me if such thing repeats once again spoiling my time . Any further suggestions can i get from you ? adding those screen shots of memtest86 in the following link in the order of sequence of its process . Thank you once again for your valuable help .

Well 30 minutes of Memtest tells you only there's no massive problem. BTW - you deleted 3 of 4 of the images...!

Assuming the RAM is good, it leaves Windows and IF MSCONFIG / Diagnostic mode eliminates the BSOD it would strongly suggest its' an OS and not Hardware issue.

However if it's not RAM or the OS then look at the Temps, use HW Monitor - http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html and if everything is stock >50C warrants a careful look.

anyhow i am not gettng any BSOD screen currently , I wish i never get that problem once again ! any how i will install my ATI radeon HD4650 once again and check out for any problems as i removed it sometimes back as i thought that could be the problem behind all these things.Thank you once again for your support Jaquith :)

i installed my graphics card some days back and it worked fine for a day and again i started getting the same old problems again .My pc started restarting on its own with no error messages , so i removed my graphics card and it worked fine for a day and now today when i switch on my pc , it said the same ol report as "the system has recovered from a serious error .
