I have XP home. I went to Help and Support to set a new restore point
before adding new software and I received an error message when I
clicked on 'Undo changes to your computer with System Restore'. The
error message says 'System Restore Application has encountered a
problem and needs to close -Send Error Report.
Hey, I don't have System Restore anymore. Has my computer been
hijacked? I have McAfee virus Scan/Firewall (auto updates), spybot and
Adaware, and I delete all temp internet cookies whenever I log off. Can
someone give me an idea as to what's going on?!?!

Not 100% sure on this, but you can reinstall System Restore, which
might do the trick...

Go to 'C:\Windows\inf in file explorer and right click the 'sr.inf'
file, then click the 'install' option.

Unfortunalty this will give you a clean install (removes all your
existing restore points), but it's the only thing I can think of.

ooh, I forgot - you might have it set in the folder options to hide
certain files, and won't be able to get to the c:\windows\inf folder as
it hidden by default.

To change this, open up a file explorer window (e.g double click My
Computer) and select the 'Folder options' item in the 'tools' menu.
then select the 'view tab' and in the 'Hidden files and Folders' bit
click the 'Show Hidden files and folders', then click ok. You will now
be able to see the inf folder.

As this option 'unhides' a lot of important system files that you
probably don't want to delete accidentally, it's safer to go back after
this to the folder options window and reverse this choosing 'Do not
show hidden files and folders' from the same list..
