Hi All,

Specs:
CPU: Ryzen 5 3600 swapped for Ryzen 7 5700x
GPU: RTX 3070 founders
Mobo: MSI x570-A Pro
PSU: Seasonic FOCUS Plus Gold 550W
RAM: Patriot Viper 4 16GB (2x 8GB) 3200Mhz DDR4
CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-U12S

Hoping I could get some help and ideas on what might be wrong. So, I've had my system for 3 years and it's worked flawlessly since. The past couple months I've experienced some blue screens maybe once a month which I just chalked up to Windows 11. Last week I decided to uninstall a driver and reboot my PC however, upon rebooting it seemed to get stuck on the BIOS screen. Initally I thought maybe my drive went caput so tried to enter the bios. This is when I discovered the whole system was actually freezing as I couldn't do anything in the bios. I deicded then to try re-seat my RAM which I tried in a couple of different slots and configurations however, after rebooting a couple of times it just stopped POSTing all together with the CPU ez debug light coming on. I tried removing the CPU power pins and putting them back in which made no difference. I then tried removing everything until I just had the CPU and RAM modules in. This still showed the cpu ez debug light. I then concluded it must be a dead processor as all the fans were still spinning up so I ordered a Ryzen 7 5700x. Thinking this would solve all my issues I installed the new CPU although this has made no difference. Finally, I've tried resetting the CMOS and removing the mobo from the case to check if anything was shorting it, still no luck. Now I'm thinking it must be a dead mobo although, I don't want to spend anymore money without getting some opinions on anything else I should try.

Many thanks,

Luke

How old is your PSU?
Your 550W PSU might not be enough for a RTX 3070 to run properly, and it could be straining that PSU.
An excellent 550W PSU might be able to handle it, but as it ages it won't.
The minimum recommended by Nvidia is a 650W PSU, so there is a bit of buffer.

Also, did you update the BIOS before installing the Ryzen 7 5700x, otherwise it won't work.

Unplug power cord from PSU and press power button to drain capacitors.
Reset the BIOS by removing the CMOS battery.
Install the Ryzen 5 3600 , one RAM module and the GPU.
Plug back the power cord and boot the system.

It was infact the BIOS that needed to be updated and the 3600 is dead. Running smooth now with the 5700x. My PSU is only 3 years old a good quality, not had any troubles with 550w and the 3070 so far but it will be the next piece of kit I upgrade. Thank you.
