Hey fellas,

I saw tech wrote something about puppies so I figured I would chime in. I have taken Ryans advice and we'll wait to upgrade. So I purchased a Great Dane puppy! He has decided to chew on everything except my computer. I think he'll do just fine lol.

I do have a question Ryan. About three weeks ago, my pc would turn on and then immediately back off. I troubleshooted using Tom's hardware failure guide and find that I have a defective MB. Good thing it was still under warranty. A replacement on Amazon was $379, or something crazy like that, used! What?!

Anyways, I received my replacement board and i'm up and running again. The puzzling thing about the new board is, not only does it overclock as well, it did so with less voltage, but higher temps. Any guess as to why that is? Same model z77x-ud3h. It easily hits 4.8 Ghz with only 1.3. Fully stable with 1.315. The temps are in the mid 90s so I shut it down and have not ventured back up that far. 1.26 for 4.7 Ghz and temps are mid 70s. All tests ran using Intel burn and aida64.

Good to see your setup is still rocking Ryan!

@ PCNoob27

You are lucky you discovered the motherboard as the issue because intermittent problems with a motherboard are very hard to pin down the source of the problem, constant problems are much easier to diagnose.

All hardware overclocks differently and it could be in this case better solder application from the manufacturer or numerous manufacturing reasons of the motherboard, in some situations it could have been on the negative side instead of the positive side so you lucked out there.

These differences may also be a solid indication of the previous motherboards pathway to failure.

Interesting.. Great response as usual Ryan! I did not have another MB to test the cpu, was just a best educated guess. The system would only power on when I turn on the power supply. Could have been the power button was bad (works flawlessly now). No system beep or error code either.

I plugged in the sata power connector along with the cpu fan, to make sure the cpu didn't get hot when testing. I then stuck a paperclip in the MB power connector (like testing a faulty psu). I turned on the power supply and only half of the motherboard powered up. Cpu fan was not running so I shut it down. Didn't know if it was powering the cpu or not. The cpu fan connector from the powersupply should have ran the fan at least.

All of these things lead me to believe it was the motherboard. Still haven't figured out what happened. Whatever happened killed my hdd with it. Good thing I got that Samsung pro 😉

Could have been a power surge that's why I run APCs (battery backup or UPS uninterruptable power supply), on all our computers it keeps the machines with pure power not affected by power outages, brown outs, power surges, etc.

Best money you can spend on your computers longevity.

Yeah I'm just gonna say as well as I stare at the Ultra-120 eXtreme-1366 air cooler and the Water-block that are brand new in boxes that I myself have been a busy man other than cpu cooling. I've purchased all the shingles for my roof and osb sheathing as well as roofing nailer, framing nailer and air compressor, miter saw for the job of fixing my roof so my computer stays dry haha. This project has been frozen..............

No it's not too steep. 30 degrees. It's just tearing the old wooden slats and 50 year old shingles, sistering the rafters to fix sag and lugging all the material up that will be the problem. I may just wait until spring since it's not leaking....yet. So the shingles get ample heat to seal. May collect more parts over the course of winter because I have got most of all the materials and tools for roof.

That's quite a job, hope you have some friends to help you.

Ha. I reside in Alberta, Canada. Maybe I'll just head your way for the winter :)

7. it's only a £5 webcam...
edit: didn't realise the mic. was on... must remember to mute that before the kids get home from school, don't want to deafen the internet 😉

an old acer veriton case that i have stripped, prepped and trying to get painted and put back together before his broadband goes on... oh yeah, i have that to sort out as well...

Please do not take offense, I need this thread to stay on topic, because I do not want the moderators to feel it needs to be closed because it has not stayed on topic.

Thank You! Ry
