well there are not the same spec. wise.

4860

Stream Processors 640 Stream Processing
GPU Core Clock 700MHz
Memory Clock 750MHz (3.0Gbps)
Memory Interface 256-bit
Memory Type GDDR5
RV790 core (same core as the 4890)

4850

Stream Processors 800 Stream Processing Units
GPU Core Clock 625MHz
Memory Clock 993MHz, 1986 Mbps
Memory Interface 256-bit
Memory Type GDDR3
RV770 core

Looks like a stripped down versoin of the 4890.

Hope thats helps!

^ I think some engineer at ATI was bored sitting there staring at a 4870 and thought, "hmm well we can't sell you cheaper, because people are still buying you. But what if we disable a few things and make you run slower, and charge people less. YEAH then those people that don't want to pay for a 4870 will buy you."

LOL WTF??!?!?!?! HD 4860 LMAO, never heard of it.

Quality of knowledge = (Time spent researching)/(Number of capitals used improperly + extra punctuation + inane comments on a board)

So I am not surprised at your surprise 😉

Anyway, the 4860 is a cut down 4890 as far as I know. Just produced to use up the odd failed 4890 I suppose. I doubt there were many made.

It seems so pointless to be messing around with an (dare I say) "older" card. Why not keep focus on the 5xxx series? I don't think that i'd bother with this card, id just go with a 5770.

i like your post here... 😀

btw, if i want to buy a new card, i wouldn't choose this card for sure, there's a lot of 5XXX series cards out there with newest tech and more efficiency.

I just ordered this card. There are people overclocking it past 4890 levels. Makes sense since it's nearly the same thing. I'm upgrading my computer and I wanted something noteably faster than my 8800gt but cheap. It's somewhat risky since I could end up with one that doesn't overclock well. If that's the case then owell. It's still notably quicker than my 8800gt. It will tide me over for a while till I see what happens with the Fermi launch.

the 4860 cannot attain the same performance as a 4890 regardless of the overclock, the only thing you can equal is the memory/core clock... The 4860 has 640 SPU's while the 4890 has 800 SPU's........

That is like me saying I am going to get a GTX 260 instead of a 275 and i will overclock it to the same speeds  , it does not work that way.....
