Thanks for all the hard work. :)

If you need any help PM me.

That means it belongs to Tier 2 Class A right?

Yes. It's a quality unit.

Good Enough..coz luckily i have one..and im hoping that it'll able to handle an AMD R9 280X along with AMD FX 8350..!!

Thanx alot for a quick reply..i've been hitting head over the posts regarding the Power Requirements of 280X but wasnt quite satisfied with the answers, but you sir, finally cleared my confusion and luckily..i found MSI R9 280X that mentioned that their powered 280X requires 500W PSU unlike the Sapphire website which claims that their one requires 750W..:heink:..this jus made my miserable..lol..but thank you..:)

So Utra's X Connect is riding the sled out to the garbage can.. . shame. It's the first psu I've used with modular connections. Maybe that's all worth saying about it. Since I now believe 8 years ago, the 550 watter killed my big Pentium 3. But after replacing the motherboard, I shoved a Basiq 500 in and that unit killed itself. Didn't even borrow my gun. But I also notice this Sapphire R9 280x saibe1 mentioned and I though, how the heck did this 280x gain the need of 100 extra watts? I was interested in purchasing the card when I noticed the 750w power requirement. So thanks for the heads up, anort3

Ultra is a prime example of good marketing. Tiger Direct marketed the hell out of them and their patent on modular cables. At the time when the original X Connect was released in the early - mid 2000s sites popped up all over the place purporting to be review sites. They would unbox the unit and be oohing and aahing about how shiny they were and how well they worked without ever putting them on a scope much less on a load tester. Turns out they were pure junk. Well the X3 and X4 were rated decently but both are discontinued and the OEM was Andyson on both. Not a name that inspires confidence no matter how well they did in testing. A brand to avoid.

Oh and on the 280X. Although it is just a rebranded 7970 the 280X has the potential to pull a full 300 watts by itself in certain synthetic circumstances. I believe Furmark was the only way that happened and both Nvidia and AMD call Furmark a heat virus so it shouldn't happen in real world circumstances. But if it could pull 300 watts in Furmark it is just a single bad driver away from pulling 300 watts in say Crysis 3 or a similarly demanding game. That's why RealhardtechX recommends a 600w unit for the 280X and a 550w unit for the 7970. We all know both AMD and Nvidia have both released some really bad drivers in the past.

In Reviews..the whole system excluding GFX with AMD FX 8350 all other components including takes around 250W and that too with all the 8 Cores on full loads..that isnt going to happen while Gaming or doing Normal operations on the PC..so if that so..still 250+300(GPU's Bad Driver or Furmark Case)=550W..and thats the worst case scenerio...right?

Alryt..then we can take a chance..😉..and if in case i experience some crashes & all...then ill straightway pick up a Seasonic MK12II 850W..but it'll take a while to get some funds after buyin a Badass GFX lately..-_-..Oh well..

Hmm. My mouth is watering for that 280X now. That Sapphire Vapor-X has new appeal. Lol. 2 years ago, I bought a HD7950 thinking it would last 3 or 4 years and I had to continuously look for ways to keep up with the BattleField crowd.
OC'd it to it's limits, modified the cooling sytem with water, air dams and fans. Well, thanks to a bad Corsair RM750 it can rest it's tired circuits peacefully beside it. Poking around on the internet, I found a XFX 750 BE quietly sitting with idle hands. I'm no dream employer but I can promise a nice UPS hook-up. In a sense I gained a bit from this thread, and tommorrow, I 'll be the owner of a Sapphire Vapor-X. Thank you kindly, anort3 and dottorrent. This has been a good and excellent thread.

You are very welcome. Glad to help! :)

You know the GTX 970 is being released very soon. I have seen rumors it's going to cause quite a shakeup and be priced at $299 while being faster than a GTX 780/R9 290. Might be a good idea to wait a few days before buying a card!

As above, it's probs a good idea to wait a few days, even if you still go for the 280x, it's always nice to see what new cards are to be released. After all, you wouldn't wanna get a 280x, then find nvidia have a faster, cheaper card coming.

Ooouu. I hate leaving miss Sussie with burgers and fries at the front door but if miss Right knocks at the back door with a steak on her plate, I'll have to leave with her.

Battling back and forth between the Rosewill Capstone 550W,XFX 550W and the Antec you guys just posted above. I think they are all in the same tier but Rosewill seems to have some concerns. Any advice?

Nice tip. I wasn't aware Nvidia was planning any kind of launch date. I just pre ordered 2 GTX 970s from Amazon today.

Thanks again! Lol.

The Rosewill unit is based on the Super Flower Golden Green platform. Super Flower are among the best for the budget user.
