For the discussion about HEDY PSU, it's fairly cheap and compact because it doesn't have ANY voltage regulation, cheap capacitors which may fry on high loads, no efficiency rating, no surge protection which, on high (or even moderate) loads may take the components along with it. Never really heard of that company before tbh. If you want quality, you need to get hold of some better units.

UPDATE November 15th 2014

All PSU tier names have been changed and are now underlined with no color. So if you saw this, Tier one, you will now see this Tier One. This is to prevent confusion and misunderstanding, as some people who view this have been saying for a few days now.

I have also re-reviewed all of Thermaltake's Toughpower line of PSUs again, as some were discontinued and some were just lingering there for what seemed to be for no reason.

And now for the PSUs -

Added PSUs to tiers are the following -

Tier Two Class B

Thermaltake
Toughpower 1200M 1350M 1500M
Toughpower Gold 1200w
Toughpower XT 775M
Toughpower XT Gold series (Really confusing name, since they are rated Platinum)
Toughpower XT Platinum 1275w (Please don't confuse this one with the XT Gold line)

Tier Three

Thermaltake Toughpower Grand 1200M

Tier Five

HEDY (If there was a Tier 100000, it would belong there. They're that bad)
xTreme (Cyberpower's PSUs)

Currently Un-tiered

Thermaltake
Toughpower Gold 850M 1000M 1500M
Toughpower Grand 1050F 1200F
Toughpower XT Gold 1275M (Yes, it is gold, for a Platinum rated line)

Moved PSUs to tiers are the following -

Tier Two Class B

Corsair HXi Series (Missed Platinum efficiency in hot box tests and slight ripple issues)

The following PSUs have been changed -

Tier Two Class B

Corsair HXi Series to Corsair HXi Series

That looks great! Much easier to tell where the tiers start and end.

Also Fortron RAIDER 750 750W Active PFC 80 PLUS Silver arriving in monday. Always interesting to find out about new models.

The FSP Raider 750w is a relatively middling quality unit. Poor regulation and high ripple. Jonnyguru gave it a 7.8/10 in 2012.

http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story6&reid=310

HardOCP was less forgiving and it failed in their testing so they might have sent jonnyguru a cherry picked model. Even worse regulation so bad it drops out of ATX standard and it fails in transient load testing.

Good unit to avoid. I would put it in tier 4. Not so bad it's about to fail but bad enough to never recommend to anyone with cheaper units out there of much higher quality.

Well now that I actually look at the list it already was in tier 4. :vip:

Hello, I have been looking through entire list but still didn't found them, would like to know in which tiers do these belong?
Eurocase EC350W X7 PFC
MODECOM GREEN ENERGY 500W
ATX 600W/FAL604FS12 TECNOWARE
GTT PSU 400W CE PFC 2XIDE 2XSATA PCIE 6+
Lepa modulare PSU 80+ Gold, 800 W
Spire PSU ATX 420W
INTER-TECH PSU SL-500K, 500W
THERMALTAKE London 530W 80+ GOLD Modular ATX

Lepa has some good models but I have never even heard of the OEM used for that model. Yue-Lin Electrical Technology. No reviews exist though.

The only unit I see there that I would use is the Thermaltake as it's at least made by CWT. Still there are no reviews and CWT can make some junk.

The other units are all no name and very likely just trash.

Keep in mind that 80 Plus ratings only measure efficiency not quality.

UPDATE November 17th 2014

I have added a link to RealHardTechX's website for Graphics Card PSU recommendations, based on company recommendations. It's just before the efficiency labelling.

Added PSUs to tiers are the following

Tier One

Thermaltake Toughpower Gold 850M

Tier Three

Thermaltake London 550w

Moved PSUs to tiers are the following -

Tier One

Thermaltake Toughpower Gold 850M (Reviewed. 1000 and 1200M models have not been reviewed yet)

The following PSUs have been changed -

Currently un-tiered -

ThermaltakeToughpower Gold 1000M 1500M (850M in Tier One)

Seasonic's ECO series are discontinued models and they use cheap Teapo caps. If you are looking for a quality Seasonic unit ECO series is not the one to buy

I would think the Thermaltake Toughpower Gold 850M should be tier 2 not tier 1 based on this review:

http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story6&reid=402

Points off for ripple and regulation.

HardOCP reviewed the 1200w version.

http://www.hardocp.com/article/2014/11/10/thermaltake_toughpower_1200w_gold_power_supply_review/9#.VGpR88nzhf4

Also tier 2 in my opinion. Tier 1 needs to be reserved for exceptional units.

Okay thanks !

That Eco Power 300 (100~240V, 50/60Hz AC input) in your review link is not to an ECO Series PSU.

The ECO Series are 200~240V, 50/60Hz AC input only and were never sold in North America.

The ECO Series use a Nippon Chemicon SMQ series 85°C capacitor on the primary. The capacitors on the secondary are TEAPO 105°C.

I am curious about this: SuperFlower Leadex Gold has no over-temperature protection and does not pass the hold-up test according to techpowerup and yet it's in Tier 1?
I read the build quality is good but not the best, while its *only* qualities are good efficiency, very good stability and very low ripple (ok I know, these are some of the most important qualities to look for in a PSU). Oh, and comparatively low price in its quality class.
But still... does it really deserve Tier 1? I thought those should be really the best of the best. Why not Tier 2 Class A?
Also, not fully "all-Japanese" capacitors, since the modular board uses CapXon (not a big problem in this location but still...).

Really really later edit:
My question above might have been too long.
To put it simple:
According to techpowerup the SPF Leadex Gold 750W has shorter hold-up time than ATX recommendation:
http://www.techpowerup [dot] com/reviews/SuperFlower/SF-750F14MG/5.html
Should't this move this PSU a little lower in the list?
Thank you.

I may have been a bit hasty in recommending the Corsair HXi get moved to tier 2b. I was basing that on this HardOCP review of the HX 1000i:

http://hardocp.com/article/2014/10/20/corsair_hx1000i_1000w_power_supply_review/9#.VGxfT8mJRio

Rolli59 pointed out to me in another thread however that the 750w and the 1000w versions both scored 9.6/10 from jonnyguru.

http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story6&reid=392

http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story6&reid=394

Both with all 10s in the categories that count, performance and build quality. What's the consensus on this? Should they be moved back to tier 1? I always wonder when you get reviews that are as dissimilar as JG and HardOCP. Was one cherry picked? Did HardOCP get a slight lemon? Comments are welcome.

This is exactly what I was referring to in meteorsraining motherboard tier list thread when I said it makes it awfully hard to simply go by the results from the popular review sites since conclusions are not always the same from site to site, as you well know. It also makes it problematic since obviously not everybody has the equiptment necessary to test components themselves and have to rely on those reviews in the hopes that they are accurate. Sigh.
