Not particularly. And it looks like it's out of stock anyhow. If that was your best choice according to your budget, you could use it, and it's certainly better than the 430w unit you currently have but one of the Seasonic or Antec units would be a much, much better option. I think given the choice I'd rather have the S12II 520 or better would be the S12II 620w Seasonic unit.

XFX doesnt provide good support here in india. I'm thinking of buying the Seasonic 12II 520. I recently upgraded the mobo and cpu. so i wont be upgrading anything now. I guess Seasonic 12II 520 is a good choice. What do you guys say ?

11.88V in the BIOS is perfectly fine. Except that is for the idle state only. You are going to buy a new PSU anyways. So check HWMonitor after installing it, if it remains the same then its HWMonitor's fault!!

Seasonic S12II Bronze 520 SS-520GB is good for you. If you are going to upgrade to an Intel processor later then you might need Seasonic S12G 550

cx750 here, 12.046 volts here 😉

Sorry if this has already been discussed. I searched but couldn't find anything, although it was a quick search 😀

On Jonnyguru's spreadsheet, the RM850 is a tier 5 of 9 PSU. Not that great.
But on Jonnyguru website, it is scored a 9.2/10, and is 'recommended'.

What is the consensus on this PSU?

edit: I'm seeing an older RM made by Chicony, and a newer one made by CWT. This may be the discrepancy. The website review is of the Chicony model. I'm wondering then if the spreadsheet is the newer CWT model and scored not so well.

edit 2: nope. The spreadsheet is also stating it is grading the chicony model, so that doesn't explain the discrepancy.

Are you assuming that Jonny Gerow who founded the jonnyGURU.com website and created the spreadsheet is the same person as OklahomaWolf who did the review of the RM850 for jonnyGURU.com?

They're allowed to have differing opinions.

Of course people can have different opinions, but is PSU testing that subjective that two professionals can be that different in their opinions?

Anyways, if it wasn't jonnyguru that did the website review, I'll assume it is better to go with his spreadsheet, as that was done by him personally, and assume the RM850 is not 'recommended' as the website states, but is in fact a tier 5 of 9, just barely above average PSU.

Trust Oklahoma Wolf and CRMARIS. I'd really like to see THW get a good PSU testing lab.

As for the RMs, really they are a mixed bag. In some configs they do alright but in others they cause problems. I don't think it was a good design idea to try and run that platform passively. Then there are two versions...but it always seems like someone gets the old one "brand new". After the CX, and the non-SF EVGAs, the RMs come in thrid around here with the amount of problems solved on the forums (at least by me).

Yes, they'd do the world a favour if they just scrapped the older versions that cause so many dramas

Damn, I had an ATRIX Base 430W PSU in my old PC... It got SO hot and it's really unreliable. Glad I got rid of it. My new PC has an EVGA NEX650G Tier Two B. Bit of a shame it's not Two A or Tier One, but heck. It's doing well and a 10 year warranty is fine!

i just tried to start my old fujitsu pc. it had some Almax psu inside made in china which lasted for the time. poor psu gave up with time and now it ruined itself not wanting to work. well some peaceful end at least. so i just got me a corsair cx 430w from work and had it installed. pam everything working. why not? add an amd r7 240 gpu could do some wonders. everything working. now to the huge part. gpu drivers need to be installed. load bar 50% psu goes piu piu. i go get my flashlight from the living room. 3 seconds later nice explosion. the smart genius cx 430w tried some ilegal mafia bombing experiments. 6 victims died in the process: 2x ram sticks, gpu, cpu, mainboard and cooler. there was but an surviver! the harddisk is but unscratched.
experience wisedom: cx loves harddisk! it will never hurt his lover no matter what!
be the csi bombing squad! be corsair cx!

And THAT, is why we hate budget Corsair units. Well, some of us.

Maybe it was a Thermaltake TR2 wearing a Corsair CX costume.

I'm glad the six victims that died were not family members due to the house burning down, and instead were only replaceable hardware. Sorry about your hardware though.

I pulled apart my old PC today and gave it a clean - turns out its got an ANTEC TruePower Trio 550W PSU in it - http://cluboverclocker.com/reviews/power/antec/TruepowerTrio550/index.htm
Now this PSU has never missed a beat, its been in my Core2 Quad system for 5-6 years. Can't find any decent reviews on it, does anyone know anything about this older 3 rail breed from ANTEC and where it's fit in the tiers?

I just cleaned 5-6 years of dirt and dust out of it today (Some of those dust bunnies were certainly singed!), looks like new again - another few years left in the old girl yet :)

Those crappy CX's could learn a thing or two from Ol'betty!

hehe dark. well the only member who could have been fried would have been my ass.
i have a safety box for such cases (not like i trust it too much) though but ye such psus aren't to be taken for granted.
still makes me want to kill the guys here selling those psus for 40€ at "price let down" with the super good reliable psus bs.
psu was still in warranty. i sent them a mail about what happened and guess what i receive: we can't do anything for such cases that happen due to user's negligence. XD good one.
well before you go to buy that corsair cx puppy first stick your fingers in an electricity output so you have the experience :)

.Common misconception. Do some studying about capacitor degradation. There are some caps that can go for 10, but those are only on high end units and the warranty will reflect that.

I got rid of my TR2 unit as soon as I read the reviews on it and the horror stories. BTW Sayken, that HDD isn't the sole survivor its the demon child from that explosion - it will give up the ghost in due time. If the components didn't die then and there it'll slowly taunt you and bid farewell when you least expect it.

i know that. it's how they do their job those hdd's. won't hurt using it only through usb adapter to sata and ide for some data retrieval i guess.
and yes capacitor degradation is one thing to behold. especially on old cougar psus. it takes like 2-3 years on those old puppies.
those antec truepower might last for 8 years but that at max.
anyways i am still in the process of trying to repair the mainboard. luckily the shop gave me a new r7 240. as for the cx reclamations and proof i've spammed them with, the annoyed "m0ngrels" staff ended giving me 50€ and another cx430w as an excuse and told me that this is all they can do (plus they said there might have been something wrong in the psu cause such things are impossible to happen with cx corsair series as they are of extreme quality (that can blow your house 😀) ). LOL as if i am crazy to use this one. sounds tempting as an explosive trophy on the wall though.

i have a friend whos had a raidmax for 4 years now and he runs lots of programs and overclocks. Raidmax seems to be one of the most underrated brands out there. And on newegg their products have some good reviews.
