Sorry, that plain isn't true. They are junk. There are plenty of AMAZING quality PSUs with poor newegg reviews. Generally the reviews mean absolutely nothing at all about the quality of the product and should not be considered.

Go find some REAL reviews from trusted sites about Raidmax and you will understand.

Raidmax is not underrated. They are appropriately rated. Poorly. Because they make poor units at best.

I know a guy with a Ford Pinto that drives it daily. I also know of about 250,000 of them in one model year alone that were recalled due to a fire safety hazard that resulted in over 25 deaths. But they were really cheap, and not everybody who bought one died or had it blow up. So it must have been ok huh?

Just because there is a single person still driving one that hasn't junked it, likely because he can't afford to, or had it blow up, does not indicate to me that the vehicle was safe, reliable or a good investment. There is a reason why approximately 95% of the three million models sold have already been crushed and cannot even be found in salvage yards to replace parts on the very few remaining ones.

They were crap. And the ones that didn't blow up or get crushed, are still crap. This very much applies to Raidmax PSUs, the Ford Pinto of the PSU world.

If you can find one, just one, review of ANY Raidmax PSU from a reliable and trustworthy, respected review site, that is positive and indicates they are well build OR reliable, I'll eat crow.

This is the ONLY positive review of a RAIDMAX unit there is. And they still say technically it is not good. They LIE about the 80+ certification on the box, the warranty is down right laughable (1 year vs 10 because raidmax know it is crap), noisy, poor voltage regulation. The only reason they passed it is because it stayed within ATX spec(not impressive at all. Even crap units can do this) and it was the cheapest 1000w PSU at the time. It is still not a good unit and should never be recommended or bought.

As it stands, Raidmax is junk. Stay away from them

i have a whole trustworthy document here in my pc that states as clear as it could be that raidmax psus feature the most useless capacitors they can ever get. from my experience i know over 20 people who had problems with those psus.
stated clearly: they are trash made for the trash can. you don't want something worse than cx power do you :/
and darkbreeze, sorry mate no crows for you xd

I hear they make good wheel chocks, for when you're working on the car and don't want it to roll. If you have a car, or ever work on one. Maybe use it as a nice paperweight or a drink coaster?

Perhaps you could pair it with that Raidmax unit and use it as a boat anchor? Heh. Just being a smart ass.

Where is Dottorent? Does anybody know if his issues with the site got sorted out towards moving forward with the new list or if Jonny made any further progress towards his? Just wondering, nothing imperative.

Darkbreeze may be correct (about being sent a hand picked unit for testing). While I think it's great manufacturers are willing to send a unit for testing I think it's rather unfair that they 'pick' one to send. No telling if it's cherry picked or simply a random unit. A more fair method would be to send a reimbursement check or voucher (non transferable for the purposes of acquiring a unit to test) and allowing the reviewer(s) to obtain a random unit from the retailer of their choice just like a consumer would. No way to control what they did or didn't receive. That should be the standard for testing any items.

I have a feeling all too often these contributed pieces of hardware are cherry picked to garner better than average reviews for their products. If quality control is doing their job and they feel confident in their products performance there should be no worry that it was just one selected at random.

Ive got an old 430 watt antec unit in a store bought computer from early 2001. Running like new, even with Oc cpu and gpu.

Exactly. High quality models, as most of us know, from Antec, Seasonic, XFX, EVGA and a few others will for the most part be likely to survive through the lifetimes of multiple builds, whereas budget Tier 3 or lower units may or may not be likely to survive the lifecycle of the current build. Of course ANY unit can fail, but clearly the further from mainstream Tier 3 placement (Relatively speaking) you go, the more likely they are to have longevity.

Bought the same , its whining even when pc is off. With or without surge protection ... Its almost the same frequency when pc is on or off, at load its blunted . Annoying , its like a permanent headache when im sitting next to pc . Should I RMA it?
