Hey guys,
Im looking for decent not too much expensive PSU for this setup

i5-4690K
MSI Z97M GAMING
Gigabyte GTX970 4GB GDDR5
DDRAM3 8GB (2x4GB) Corsair Vengeance 2133MHz, CL11
Corsair Hydro Series H75
Corsair air 240

I want to be ready for future SLI and some OCing..

Thanks

Sure it is, for a power supply labeled as 250 watts. 😀

Now slapping a 400w label on something with those specs on the other hand, and then trusting it to run a system with a discreet GPU......might just be a bad idea.

It's a Huntkey 300 Watt PSU with a 400 Watt peak rating.

Even the 300W PSUs that are used in pre-built consumer desktop units have at least a maximum combined +12 Volt continuous current rating of 18 Amps or more.

A really good 300W PSU will have a maximum combined +12 Volt continuous current rating of 25 Amps.

Trying to find some information on a really cheap, Imho dangerous, psu; Was a replacement psu in the Computer belonging to a very good friends elderly father. Computer started having problems an they have asked me to take a look at it. It's an HP with a few upgrades, but right now those details are not important.
The ONLY sticker on the PSU is the one with "a name" and the power. Name on the sticker is E-TECK. No safety certifications stickers, no manufacture numbers, nothing. Weighs about 1 or maybe 1.5 pound. Looking inside I can see there are very few components and absolutely no heat sinks. Supposedly a 350watt unit, but if the sticker is correct most of the power is on the 5volt rail (which reads 5.17-5.25 with my multimeter.).
Kinda like to know who the heck actually makes it, and anyones' experience with it (probably not good).
[Just so you know, if I can get the pc working again I will recommend a quality unit; before this one explodes]

Thanks. somebody is overcharging. I figure the wholesale on this thing is about $4 USD at the most. I actually am having a hard time believing it hasn't yet burned up - it appears that cheap and bad to me. My original eMachines had a better PSU!

Update: Boy, I didn't make that very clear. My friend had the PSU installed by a local shop and they charged ~$50 for the unit; that's what I meant about overcharging. Those 5 units for $24 dollars makes the overcharge even worse; the wholesale for those 5 units would be, at the highest, about $2 !! Friend and I will have a little more serious discussion re. a new PSU tomorrow when he picks up the PC: Two Seasonic and one Corsair CS unit at pretty good prices on 'Egg right now.

2nd Update Didn't have to do much to convince my friend to upgrade the psu: Seasonic S12II 350watt unit arrives today, install over weekend.
Other problems on the computer were solved and it was returned on Weds. running like new (except for that old PSU). Note: he rarely games and then they are pretty low level games (example would be Bejeweled) so don't think he'll have a problem with that PSU before we get it replaced.

Tint+nostall

Would you believe me if I told you they were being assembled in my country's back yard. They assemble them with tin scraps. I've seen a plethora of clients bring over a pc with a fried machine(fried tot eh battery ofc). The culprit ofc was the PSU. Usually the bad news doesn't sink in and even if it does the clients mind set is won't this machine run if I bought the same PSU?

Sigh :pfff:

Yes, I believe every word.

Hey guys, so I'm building a PC and these are the components I've chosen. What PSU would you recommend for this setup? (I'm posting all the parts just in case someone wants to leave other comments, advice or opinion about the setup!):

MoBo: Gigabyte GA-Z97X-UD3H-BK ATX LGA1150 Motherboard
CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor
RAM: Kingston HyperX Fury Black 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1866 Memory
HDD: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 970 4GB Twin Frozr V Video Card
Case: Zalman Z11 Plus ATX Mid Tower Case (up to 7 fans, although I think it comes with 4-5)
Screen: Asus VX239H 23.0" Monitor

EVGA B2 or G2 750W

I might suggest spending a little on an ssd-you're kind of bottlenecking your system. I've heard excellent things about the samsung 800 evo series, and they're not that expensive.

I'm trying to adjust my final budget and was wondering if 650W would be enough (?). If it's risky, or the 750W are really needed, I'll buy that one, I'm not getting any components burned because of a cheap PSU, 30$ it's not worth it...but since I'm not planning on OCing in the near future (2 years or so), would it be enough with 650W by now?

yes a 600W would be enough, seasonic and antec both have good 620W power supplies, but the are prices close to evga B2 750W.

XFX, antec, seasonic and EVGA are the good brands that sell at cheaper prices.

I've recently seen that EVGA does not sell in my country, and I've only found 1 EVGA PSU on Amazon, which I don't trust since Amazon is not the one selling it. So I've done some research, and found out that the best brands that sell in my country are: Seasonic and Corsair.

I'm gonna buy my PSU from one of those 2 brands, more precisely I thought in these 2 models:

Seasonic S12G Series 750W 80 Plus Gold
Corsair RM750 750W 80 Plus Gold Modular

I've read that Corsair is a good brand, but you can find better stuff for the same or less price, as Seasonic. So is this true? The S12G is a little bit cheaper, and people on the internet tend to agree that is better thatn Corsair. Despite all this, I found that Corsair is more popular in my country and that the RM750 is modular (or semi) and the Seasonic is not, so I'm getting confused on what to buy.

Which of those 2 would you recommend? Would you suggest any other (it must be Seasonic or Corsair) model or that 2 are fine?

Corsair has gone down hill. I used to love them but their quality is slipping. The RM line is ok but I think only the 850W models are upper tier. The Seasonic S12G is an excellent unit. I have 6 of them and they all perform well.
