Hey there!

Hope you guys are all doing excellent. My name is Miguel, and this is one of my first posts on this Forum.

The reason I'm making this post is because I need a little help. I own a Lenovo Y540 with an RTX 2060 and an i7 9750H and I'm having some issues. First of all, for some reason, when I'm playing the new Assassin's Creed Shadows, I'm getting 30 stable FPS, sometimes more depending on the sceneario I'm in, and that's okay, but here's the kicker; when I start recording gameplay with the Nvidia App, the Framerate Increases to a stable 55-60 FPS without any stutters, and it continues to have the same framerate until I turn the recording off... This... obviously isn't normal, and I can't really figure out why it's happening, but since I saw that this PC was able to get such good framerates, and what leads me to my main reason behind this post; I wanted to try using ThrottleStop to undervolt my CPU as to squeeze every little performance that I can out of it, whilst keeping the coolest temperatures possible, hence my post... Basically, I was wondering if anyone has the same Laptop, or the knowledge on how to properly configure ThrottleStop, since all the guides I've found regarding my specific device are outdated and don't show the same things I'm seeing on the new version of ThrottleStop...

I've attached Screenshots of how my ThrottleStop is right now, but I'm guessing it's all messed up and could potentially be improved.

Thank you all for taking the time in reading this, and even more appreciated if you're able to help me.

Best regards,

Hey there,

I've the came CPU and a 1660ti in my HP lappie.

In the Turbo Fivr Tab, you have your CPU set to 3.5ghz. Why? It should be set at either 40 for all (this is the all core boost of 4ghz.) or 4.2 for the 1st core, and on down like it would have originally been configured.

For the CPU core voltage, most 9750s can get good results up to about -200mv. So you may be able to go further there. Just be sure to bench for stability. The CPU cache should be typically about half of what the CPU vcore is, but again you may be able to get better results. I have mine at -121mv for cache and -211 for core. Also in Turbo fivr change the option to 'save changes immediately'.

On the main page, I have BD Prochot on, and Speedstep off. Windows power profile set to balanced, as it manages the power requirements well. Also speedshift deselected.

In ther turbo power limits, I have the PL1/Pl2 set at 95w. The chip shouldn't really draw more than that at 4ghz all core. I've also incresed the Turbo time lmit (Tau) to 90 seconds,

These are just my own settings after a lot of trial and error.

Also, get some decent thermal paste like Noctua NT H2 which is decent enough for laptops. It will also help keep temps in check.

With those settings above, I hit about 85c when gaming, and fan noise is noticeably lower.

You can use TSs inbuilt bench, TSBench to test and have the limits box open. It will show you if your settings are causing throttling and what to look for.

@uWebb429 might be able to help you further.
