I'm running a pentium 550 with 128 megs of ram and a 8.4 Gig HD. I've installed a digital sound processor and run up to 30 wav. files together but my system seems slow. What could I do to speed it up since music is my thing....thanks alot for any reply

Not much of a music person, but are you saying that you are mixing 30 wav files together? If so, and they are good sized files, then I would say you need more ram. Which os are you using? I've heard that win98 doesn't utilize more that 128mb, so any more is a waste (anyone with more knowledge please correct me on the 128mb thing). I would guess that win2k with 256 megs would give you the best performance. Ram is VERY cheap right now. 128mb PC133 sticks of ram are going for under $50 currently. For $50, pick up a stick and see what happens. I believe it will speed things up for you.

For starters , you could buy a new processor !
It would give you a nice boost!
That should be obvious and won´t be too expensive!

Indeed a faster procesor would help, although a pentium 800 cost around $180 vs $50 for the ram. It sounds like his problem stems from windows using virtual memory, so the ram would be the upgrade I would recommend.

You won´t see much improvement from upgrading to 256 Mb!
The real boost in memory upgrading comes from 64 Mb to 128 Mb!

On the other hand, a processor upgrade will imediately show the difference in performance!

Yes, for most cases this is true, but if he's working with 30 5 Mb files (150 Mb) the extra 128 Mb will make a big difference!
