Dear Experts,
I have an ultra portable old Sony VAIO TX1HP/W

The configuration (I know its not the latest greatest)
1.1Ghz ULV processor
1.5 GB RAM
60 GB HDD (C: 25 GB D: 35) out of which 15 GB is free.

The trouble is after using this computer for say 1 hour. It gets sluggish. The CPU sleeps longer (does not upshifts), initially the CPU performs at 800Mhz to 1.1 Ghz range but then my work involves more browsing (6 tabs chrome/firefox) and some light OpenOffice/MS Project etc.

Now I see that after using web the speed drops to 110 to 150 Mhz and never picks up on time.

Please let me know if there is something I can do to keep the processor working at 1.1 Ghz top speed always. VAIO management tool is ineffective as I have set it to performance mode on power and battery still the issue.

I look forward to your inputs.

Regards,
Sniper

Edit: Help Pls. I see 26 members reading, with no answer. Is my question clear? or maybe my non tech blabber is not understood. Any direction will be ok.
Currently I use to open disk defrag and let is analyze so that the CPU wakes from 110 Mhz to atleast 700Mhz and then I close it. This was the computer understands the load, using web browser it just sleeps.

Thanks!

Your cpu shifts according to workload. The cpu has to be being utilized by a certain percentage before it "shifts". When you say sluggish, are you basing this off of the actual feel of how fast things are or off of you watching the CPU clock speed as you do things?

If you want to keep it at the highest setting, you can use RMclock. I believe it still works. I stopped using it a long time ago because it wasn't working with my athlon 64 anymore but I think it still worked on the mobile intels.

change some of the power profiles and stuff.

If you are running windows 7 you can accomplish the same take in windows 7 power options>> advanced settings. under processor power management change the minimum power state to 100%.

Dear Enzo Matrix,

Thank you for the advice.

I am using Win XP pro SP3.

The sluggishness comes in when the CPU goes to 100% usage and I see the clock speed at 115Mhz. can you believe that the CPU has slept as I am using new chrome/firefox. I think the CPU does not think the web browsers are using any load. Thus the CPU gets stuck as I can not get it up to speed. All the tabs within the browsers get stuck, its painful to each time be patient and activate disk defrag. Worst comes if I try using MS office applications. Now I have installed the software you recommended and I will update this thread with the results.

Yes I am using Intel Centrino[ Pentium M Dothan {x83 model 13}]

Thanks again!

Thanks Enzo the software does help, I am now working on a speedier computer 😉 complete 1.1 Ghz of it. Love the work.
