shat!!! heres what intel had to say...
---------------------------------------------------
Hello Ed,
Thank you for contacting Intel(R) Technical Support.
In this particular case, after validating the processor markings that
you sent us we have been able to confirm that your processor is an
Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) unit. It matches a Intel(R) Core(TM)
2 Duo processor E4400 but the warranty on OEM processors is conveyed
from distributor to vendor to customer, for whatever period of time is
agreed to at the time of the transaction, but usually no greater than one
year.
Furthermore, the sSpec number SLA5F does not exist in our records.
There is one that matches the specifications of your processor but it is
the SLA3F. That information is available at the following link:
http://processorfinder.intel.com/details.aspx?sSpec=SLA98
Furthermore, and as explained before, we do not also cover the warranty
on those processors that are bought through e-bay as we cannot know if
the product was functioning when it was sold, or how it was
treated/used prior to being sold. Unfortunately, this is a buyer beware
situation, and while Intel would like to assist you, we cannot; your claim is
with the person selling the product or the site you purchased the
product through.
