Hi guys and girls,

my beloved PC is starting to show it's age (built in June 2016) and since I use it a lot, mainly for gaming, I am considering upgrading some components. Recently I bought a LG 34" 144Hz display that is stressing my GTX 1080, and probably my CPU as well.

Im currently running an i7 6700, stock cooler. Since when I game i use multiple programs and keep streams open on my second monitor, i think the CPU is getting capped out...

I have 3 options, going for an i9 10850K, an AMD ryzen 5900x or waiting until Intel releases it's new processors on Q1 2021. My budget is not very restricted, since I am also planning to get a 3070 or 3080...

My budget is around 2000 € or 2200 USD, considering both GPU and CPU upgrade, and maybe 32 Gb of RAM...

My current Build:

CPU: Intel i7 6700 @ 3.4 GHz [ark.intel.com]
RAM: HyperX Predator 16 GB DDR4 @ 2666 MHz [www.amazon.com]
GPU: Gigabyte GTX 1080 Gaming G1 8GB GDDR5X [www.gigabyte.com]
MoBo: Gigabyte GA170X-UD5-TH [www.gigabyte.com]
SSD: Samsung 950 PRO 256 GB NVMe SSD [www.samsung.com]
HD1: Seagate Barracuda 1TB [www.newegg.com]
HD2: Samsung HD103SJ 1TB [www.amazon.it]
PSU: Corsair RM 650x 80+ Gold [www.corsair.com]
Case: Corsair Obsidian 450D [www.corsair.com]
Monitor: LG ultragear 34gn850-b 3440x1440p @ 144hz [www.amazon.it]

We're going to need a little more information. Stylize your post like that asked in this thread and we can move forward. Also, what sort of a budget are you looking at? Perhaps your storage, chassis and perhaps the PSU can be recycled but instead of guessing, it's best you list them specs 😉

I am Thinking the same thing. I have a 6700k@ 4.9ghz witch scores 503 Single core and 2397 Multi core in CInebench R20. The 5600x single core is around 604-620 and 4570 for multi core in R20.

The 6700 non k is 406 single core 1774 multi core.

I am buying the 5600x (300$) and MSI 570x MAG tomahawk motherboard(220$). Both are sold out atm. The MSI board has the best VRM for sub 300$ boards.

Some fractal design Cases are on sale at newegg and also microcenter for today at 50% off if you find some you like them

Some choices on Aio coolers on sale from 120mmto 360mm. 100-135$

I bought this one but it is 420mm so be careful it fits in your case, 154$

I really struggled with what ram speed and CL timings I wanted but I settled on 4 sticks of the memory below to get the extra performance from Duel RANK ( this is not duel channel). I was going to buy some 4000mhz ram but all the reviews I have seen can not OC the infinity fabric 1 to 1 at 2000mhz yet so I am just going to save the 200$.

3600mhz 16-18-18-38 .75$ 2x8. 150$ for 4 sticks.

As Far as Video cards either the 3080 or 6800xt is what I I will buy. It just depends what is available at MSRP.

I am going to overclock the 5600x to it's limits and get the 5900xt when it comes out. Mostly because I want the best bin I can get on a dead platform AM4.

What do you think, maybe I should start with a RTX 3080 and later on when Intel 11th gen drops, do the upgrade of MoBo, CPU, RAM and eventually PSU?
