[SOLVED] Upgrade my GPU or Monitor now?

I’m planning on upgrading my system. I want to buy the RTX 2080 Super from ASUS. But it’s Price has increased to about $CAD 1200. And it’s rumored that NVIDIA is gonna release the new 3000 series soon. Or I could get the Razer Raptor display( which is 144Hz, 1440P, 27 inch).

my current pc specs:
GTX 1060 6GB
i7-9700k

my monitor:
some old dell monitor. It’s like 24 inch. 1080P, 60Hz and 8ms response time. And it’s thick.

so I’m not sure if I should buy the monitor now(I’d have to play at lower graphics settings because the card won’t be able to handle the better monitor) and wait for the 3000 series or just buy the card.

Im just looking for opinions because I’m really stumped at what my best option is.

If you do one without the other you are going to restrict the benefit of the new gpu/monitor until you do the other. I’d recommend just carry on saving until you are at the point you can do both and see the full benefits straight away. 3000 series should be out, hopefully prices in general will come back to pre Covid levels.

Also in the UK the Raptor has about a £200-£250 price premium over similar spec monitors but without the rgb.

Do you know of any monitors. because i havnt been able to find one that has 144Hz, 1440P and G-sync. Other than the razer one. And apparently the color is really good with the raptor.

You're going to pay a premium for gsync. I'd just look for a decent quality freesync panel, since gsync does work on most of them. No sense paying the price premium, imo.

I have a dell s2719dgf. It's a 1440/155hz, but it's a tn panel. Still a great monitor for me. Was fairly affordable and gsync does work on it. Though I dont think it's on the list. I can confirm it works with no issues.

in my opinion, the 1070 is good for now and upgrading will give minimal if any noticeable gains on most games. while i dont know much if anything about g-sync thats up to you as its your money
