Hello community!

I´ve bought myself a new 144Hz monitor and it´s amazing, but not in every game and going from 60 fps locked to 144 is sometimes harder for my setup, so I´ve been thinking about upgrading my CPU, cause that seemed to be the biggest problem atm. Temps went alot higher even its cooled by Kraken X62 and the noise of fans from my case is terrible now when its high speed cause of temps....

So my rig is:
I5 7600k OC to 4,8Ghz
16GB DDR4 2666Mhz RAM
Nvidia Asus Strix GTX 1070 OC 8GB
Corsair CX 500W (oldest component)
MSI Z270 A-PRO
1x M.2 SSD
1x Classic SSD
1x 7200rpm HDD for data
CPU is cooled by NZXT Kraken X62 in the Zalman Z1 case

Cause of FPS drops i´ve been thining about an upgrade for i7 7700k, but also I´ve been thinking about new motherboard with 8700k or 9700k (maybe kinda overkill for the GPU but the i5 is bottlenecking it atm for like 10-15%). And also upgrading to some good 650 - 750 PSU. I´ve been having problems with GPU overclocking too, it just always crashes games.. when i try it i think its the PSU now.

The main question for me is: what is most worth it upgrade for me atm, is it 7th generation or something new with also new motherboard, or 7700k will be just fine? Also which PSU would you recommend from 650W to 750W?

Maybe its abit chaotic but thanks for the answers anyway :) .

I am assuming 1080p here. First off, get a better quality power supply. Evga G2/G3, Seasonic Focus Gold, or Corsair TXM/RMx. If your temps are high, with that AIO/CPU combo, something is not quite right. Intel side I would not look at anything below an 8700k. For less money, though, you could go with Ryzen 3600, x570 board, and 16gb DDR4 3200, and either sell, or reuse your old hardware for something else. Performance is similar to an 8700k, and you get an upgrade path, for at least one more generation of CPU's. Should you also decide you want to stream, in the future, you can drop in a 3700x, 3900x, or even a 3950x, later on down the line.

Okay, the upgrade to a 9600K, 9700K will make a great difference and you are looking at around a $470 for motherboard and CPU. The 7700K will be the easiest option and personally it will also make a difference for high FPS as it overclocks really well though moving to 6 core or 8 core will be better for the long run. Everything else can be reused but I would also look to getting a better PSU like a Seansonic Focus Gold 650w or EVGA gold...

Of course you could save a bit of money by going AMD in the 3600X and the B450 Tomahawk motherboard which is also a great option and cost effective. Ultimately the Intel side is better purely on the gaming front especially for high FPS and both the 9600K and the 9700K will do the job. If you can pick up a second hand 8700K, then even better as it is a great CPU all around. I should know as I have one overclocked to 4.9GHz and it batters just about any game...
